Can you quantize on an MPC 1000?

First, I must ask what Quantize is? Can someone please explain how it works. Second, can I do it on my MPC1000?

O.K. playa I ain't trippin on ya I will help anybody because like yur teachers said back in high school a dumb ? is a ? that is not asked! So I'm not sayin yur ? is dumb or anything like that don't get bent out of shape ya feel me! But I put in work to learn this business and still have a long wayz to go! Everybody here would like to be a producer but really don't know what a producer means ya see what I'm sayin! Alot of ya'll are some off da chain beat makers but when your PRODUCING it's a whole different level! But let me get to it...... Quantize 101. Quantize is used when your sequencing a snare or kick in da pattern/sequence. For example, if you set "1/32[3]" do u know what that is? Probably not. See alot of so called producers don't know! When you set your quantize to "1/32[3]" note triplets this feature would help greatly to keep your snare, kick, Hi-hat, whatever on point so it won't be off ya feel me! Have you every sequence one of your beats and for some reason your hittin the pad on time and the whole nine but when you play it back it's still off? This is where your quantize comes into play! If you want to triple up on your Hi-hats using the "1/16" note it wouldn't triple the Hi-hats it would just play then really fast but if you use the "1/32[3]" note triplets then this will triple the Hi-hats for you on time so your s!it what sound like someone havin a street fight with spoons! You know like them off da chain 3-6 Mafia type Hi-hats. Holla at cha boy and let me know WhAt'S rEaL!

Thanks for the info, but i cannot seem to find (I really have not looked very hard) this setting/feature in the MPC 1000.

I don't have my MPC 1000 yet it should be in tomorrow or on X-mas but I've read the hell out the manual and plus I've used the XL alot. To use the Quantize feature on the MPC 1000 - it should be on your main screen "f1" I believe it's called "T.C." Timing Correct hit that button then it should take you to the timing correct screen and there should be a Note value field where you can change the timing corrections to "1/16", 1/32[3] and so on! I'm not like some of these phony a!s characters on the site that don't like to help I'm just glad I can help because we all had to start from the bottom ya feel me! None of us didn't just came on the producing scene knowin s!it the first day! Datz how it iz in da hood you know! But I know he's watchin me! He was the first person that ever heard one of my beats when I was like 14 yrs ol' and said for me not to stop that I was hot! He was a huge drug dealer in Texas and 1yr later bought me $10,000 worth of studio equipment when I was 15 yrs. ol' and I still have and use every piece to this day! Ya quantize feature is always on, it's a default. You can switch it off, it's very very easy. On the main screen, press the F1 button (T.C.), you then have the options of either 1/8, 1/8(3), 1/16, 1/16(3), 1/32, 1/32(3) or 'off'. Off is useful for banging in midi riffs, where you may not want the sampler to decide where your notes go, but when you're creating beats it's an awesome tool to keep everything neat and tidy.

Quantizing is a kind of black art when combined with note shifting, etc.

this is known as 'groove timing'...and many pro's use quantize and note shifting for the unique feel that they then become known for.

like Timbo, Dre, Neptunes, and any other producer.

For example:

note A on X amount of Swing, Note B on X amount swing...
note C shifted 1 tick later...and note D shifted 1 tick earlier.

this process can make your beat sound either swingy & tight, but then it can also sound ****.

you need to decide what sounds good and what doesn't.

thats why its called 'Black Art'...period.

One more question though- While I think I understand the T.C. feature, what does "swing" do? Laymens terms seem to be working great for me!

Tell me more about this "black art" of groove quantizing..

I've done some pretty cool things with the "Groove Template" on my Yamaha RM1x, and I can pound out tracks with groove manually, but mostly it's been accidental and inconsistent, I don't know "The Process" to make different grooves.

Can you point out a website that has some different groove templates or something? or just tell us some tips or something to get me started?

Nice use of "The Process"! Am interested also to see if there are some links to the "black art".

can anyone else elaborate on this for me. my current beats are quantized to death and I would like to make them groove but not sure how much swing is too much. I know use your ears but like should the swing on note a and b be the same or different
