Chopping a sample

Ok...can someone explain to me how to chop a sample and assign different zones of the sample to certain Pads on the XL?

I was watching my man Just Blaze how he took that Horn Sample and assigned like 8 pads with Horn samples of various octaves and pitches etc. throughout the sample (about 10 15 seconds of sample)Can someone explain how thats done on the XL. Not sure if its easier on the 4000 he was using but I imagine it has to be a similar technique involved.

I tried searching but don't have time to read through since I am at work right now....ha haha!! I know some you got this stored in your head!!

Nah seriously, I did. Page 108 where is says you can "Slice" a sound up and assign up to 16 zones to 16 drum pads.....Is this the right part of the manual? I tried this once a couple of days ago and it didn't work. I took a sample and zoned it...chopped it up into 16 zones, took all the even Zones out (just experimenting) what I got was chopped up garbage!! I guess you gotta clip or edit each zone how you like it huh? Then slice it and assign? My mqan Blaze look lik he did that Ish on the Fly though....Like click click click he was done....Almost like it "AutoZoned"<-----hah Autozone..his sample.
I haven't really dug deep into the XL since I had never had a reason to, but the demand for Chopped up Sampled Fired up Tracks is on the rise. I wanna be ready for the clients since they are starting to knock on my door with hot sounding sh!t that they want to sound like or close to.
Sliced and Diced up portions of Old a$$ records Aint new, just new to me in the production field on my MPC. I can slice up a Sample all day on a PC and Sample the EDITED sounds from my sound card...but I want to be able to do in the XL like it should be done.

I feel sorry for you for real.If you had the 2k you'd really be lost.The 2k doesn't have the auto slicing and autochromatic assign like the xl so it takes alot more time to chop and assign.That ish isn't that hard,you need to take out the manual and do everything it says step by step.

it doesnt have to be chopped on the XL, i only trim and fine tune my sounds on the mpc, i do all my chopping in Nuendo, thats why it rocks to have a computer with your setup not everyone is that fortunate

Word...I got it. I played around with it last night and got the results I wanted...Thanks for the help the ones that did..I got into the manual which gave me direction, the rest was grinding out the Trim and fine tuning.

The PC route is definately much easier and more precise to me. It worked out though. I got that Note Repeat thing down too. I didn't realize the tricks you could do. Don't get me wrong, I make some tight stuff, I just did it MY way though instead of the way alot of you guys probably do stuff.

nah Dawg I had a 2k for 3 years and made hot stuff.....I got the XL 2 years ago and used it very little...I just recently started to crank things up again and needed some insight thas all...Don't feel sorry for me. The manual thing was "I Didn't have one"...so I downloaded it the other day and printed it out. Now the Manual and XL are in the same place. I'm straight now...

Just Blaze already had those samples chopped and assigned to pads, thats why it seemed like he did it so fast

Just Blaze already had those samples chopped and assigned to pads, thats why it seemed like he did it so fast

Now that answers that!....THanks man...thats the answer I was looking for.
I was like that Kat made a hot track in like 10 minutes..which he said at the end that some of his best work can only take a few minutes....
After a couple of days of straight grinding I have learned sh!t exponentially. Just never took the time to just Fricken Dig In.
