I'm looking to replace my Yamaha AW4416 for the Digi 002, and trading my Triton Extreme 61 for the Powerbook G4 15 inch. I'm a software person. When it comes to drums, sampling, and sequencing the job gets done on the 4000. This will be the setup I'll be taking with me when I get to Texas next year for school. I'll be also taking the Digidesign course online and will be Mac based.

The setup will look like this:

Powerbook G4 15"
Digi 002
Pro Tools Le
Reason 3.0
M-Audio Oxygen 8
MPC 4000
Vestax Handitrax

I currently have:

Korg Triton Extreme 61
MPC 4000
Yamaha AW4416 w/ no cd-rom drive
Slow ass Presario w/ maxed ram

Do you guys have any recommendations that might change my decision?

u might want to wait for the intel powerbooks. the g4 processor is like 5 years old. the reason why apple is switching to intel is because of ibm's inability to make a processor suitable for the powerbooks. for te price dem g4 powerbooks have no power. the new laptops r only a few months away.

Thanks god, but I'm sadly getting rid of the Triton. By next year I'll have enough money to also cop the new Powermac. The MPC 4000 is next on my list, sadly because I can do the same on Reason. I'm not going to spend money on another MPC for just the reason of sequencing. I'm going to replace it with a Motif ES, Roland, and Korg Trinity rack. All my drums and sequencing are going to be done on Reason and Pro Tools. This should last me a couple years.

Powerbook G4 15"
Powermac G5
Digi 002
Pro Tools Le
Reason 3.0
M-Audio Oxygen 8
Akai MPD 16
Vestax Handitrax
Yamaha Motif ES Rack
Korg Trinity Rack
Roland Fantom rack

While I agree that you should wait for the Intel based PowerBooks...Pro Tools will run great on a 1.5Ghz pBook. It is designed to run good on that system.

my setup is startin to look like yours. I just sold my triton too. Im moving towards racks.

im considering getting the mpc 2500. I dont really utalize the mpc4000 multisampling as much as I thought I would. Im leaning more towards a rack for all my keys and anything I cant handle with 16 levels. Plus i can do without all the extra filters on the 4000. I luv the 4000 but its **** gigantic and Ill make 300 bucks off the trade.

I could never move to jsut software though! gotta have atleast an mpc.

cyrus did u expand your triton?
i have all the exb rom's and it is just ridiculous. i have had my ts 61 for 3 years and it still amazes me. the exb's dropped to $99 so they were really cheap. i do plan to get a motif rack es at some point but i will probably get rid of my xv-5050, cause i wouldn't need both

No I didnt expand it.

I was thinking about it, then i ran into some cash problems so I decided to sell it. it was a TS 76. I also hadnt used it as much any more because I do alot more Vinyl sampling; the only thing i really used keys for are basses, synthy stuff to add to my samples.

I was looking at the roland xr cause i like the fact that it has 6 srx slots for expansion.

I really think i might miss my triton though; I already am!. That thing was a beast. My favorite part was combi mode and the arpegiator. I liked programing my own patterns plus its pretty easy to just flip around sounds and make new ones.

I dont know. I was thinking of adding the triton rack after I got the fantom xr. I figure with a rack setup I can just add racks all day for about half the cost of a board. The only thing id be comprimising is the user interface, but I dont mind.

How do you like the xv5050? I was thinking about that one too cause its so cheap nowadays. I liked the sound of the xr cause it has a sampler more like the 5080. Whats your favorite triton card & how does the sound set of the extreme compare?
