Is the 2500 worth all this????

I just bought an MPC 2000xl MCD last week, but am now considering sending it back in favor of the 2500. Is it worth packing the 2000xl back up, shipping it back to Musicians Friend, waiting for them to receive it, waiting for them to package up the 2500, and waiting for it to be shipped back to me? Is there that much of a different that it would be worth all that for $300 more dollars? Or should I just stick with the 2000xl?

The 2500 has way more than $300 worth of added features over the 2000XL.

But there are some issues with its current OS. These issues are won't hinder you much, but you should be aware that they are present. There are several threads with these issues.

I think I might get the 2500 instead cause Akai is known for abandoning their past machines when they no longer sell them....they don't support anything that is not making them any more money.........like my boy had to call roger linn himself to get updates on the MPC60II...even though akain manufactured it.......kindda F ed up I feel....about them treating buyers like that

Roger Linn (who use to be affiliated with Akai) is the right individual/company to go to for the MPC 60 updates. The MPC 60/II, 3000/LE, and 2000/XL are all solid MPCs and don't need any support from Akai. You can get all the support you need in this forum from actual MPC users. The MPC 60 was created in the 80s...why should they continue to provide support for a product that was discontinued when you were in diapers You can still download the 60s manual from the Akai Site.

Is the business market, return customers are very important. Just as in the case of microsoft, if you have only have win98....it's not like they will not support and turn there back on you...they will of course try and get you to buy the new product but they will still show you love.....thank god for the net and ebay cause in my case if I was trying to get something for my classic MPC2000 and the net and ebay didn't exist it would be damn near impossible to get the options for my machine. Called Akai on something for the MPC2000 when the XL had just come out and they was like "naw, we only have stuff for the MPC2000XL." Playa the XL just came out? It's a good thing that EMU didn't take that approach when my SP1200 crashed.....even though they had stopped making it (the 2nd edition), they still helped me out. I think akai makes a great product, I think think that they need to be more consumer oreintated. Like it's starting to piss me off that something that put out is coming up with some many bugs. I know all machines do this but.........damn!!! Give a expected release date on new OSes or whatever else. The 2500 was about to come out and on their site they didn't even say it was coming soon. It just appeared as one of their products one day....WTF?!?!? OK, I'm done venting....my bad.....LOL

The options for the MPC 2000 and 2000XL are exactlty the same. You misunderstood what the individual said or that person was badly misinformed.

There are plenty of Akai Authorized Service Centers World-Wide that will fix any MPC that has ever been created.

Why would you get pissed off about a product that you don't already own. You can use what you have or buy the new product which does have some issues, they will not stop you from working. The Operating System that you are using in your PC right now (from a multi-billion dollar company) has issues as well

Akai USA didn't post info on its site..but Akai Japan had plenty of info. The MPC is still made in Asia. It is no surprise that releases will start there first. In fact, several of us were beating on our 2500s before it was posted on the US site.

I can't think of any company that gives release dates of new Operating Systems.

If I was in a store and seen a 2kxl for 650 and a 2500 for $2000 i would get a 2kxl. It realy dont matter which one u got though. I can make dope beats on either

Don't worry about the $2000 price tag of the 2500. You may be able to still get one for as low as $1600 at places such as Alto Music where several forums members (inlcuding myself) have picked up one from them.

Jacpot is right that you can create hot shitz on an XL or any MPC. But if you have the funds to splurge on the 2500, I would get it

For years, I have been getting MPCs for as low as $400 and selling them for $800...my customers were/are happy with their purchases..I never thought of them as stupid.

Here are my 2 cents... I was going to buy the 2000xl until I started doing my pricing research. That was when I discovered the 2500 for the first time. What I paid for the 2500 (1600$), I could'nt have bought the xl for that price. I have never owned any MPC before this one but, with all the extra features and the 8 outs and the 4 midi out, you get TONS more bang for your buck than purchasing an xl. Hell, even for 2 g's its worth it. GO GET ONE NOW!!!!
