did you layer them at different pitches?

any ideas??

Is your Voice Overlap (Program Mode-->PARAMS tab) set to Mono or Poly? I have encountered a similar problem and realized that my snare was doubling up (ie I guess my finger bounced when I hit the pad while recording, so it actually recorded 2 snares on top of each other). This can have the effect of sounding like the pitch is changing (when compared to a single snare). Changing the Voice Overlap to MONO will prevent this from happening when you record. You can check the STEP EDIT mode to confirm whether or not you have a doubled up event.

other possibility is that this kid has the clap sample set to the tune qlinks by accident. that used to happen to me back in the day.

make sure your qlinks have no samples assigned to them

of course they're not layered at different pitches, and even if they were,it wouldn't change the pitch randomly. but thanks :-)

i'll check the q link, but i definitely didn't assign anything and i haven't touched it. i did notice when i removed the 2nd layer,it stopped, but then i went to my gig so i'll check tomorrow.

by the way. i'm a newbie, not a kid... that's why my spelling is decent and i don't use that cool hippity hoppity jargon. :-)

haha neither do i, besides the casual slang that juts out like a southerner's lower teeth

anyway, yeah if the qlinks are your problem then you most def didn't mean to assign em - but it happens really easily when you try to hit mode/some function like program which doesn't register -- and then you hit A01. this takes you to qlink. after a second of blank staring you may hit the pads again, tryiing to get to your pgm screen, only to accidently assign a qlink.

this happen to me a bunch back in the day. i seriously doubt your problem is a hardware one - more likely just something you're doing wrong and not yet realizing it. not YET, that is. keep looking at it and tell us when you figure it out.

man, i'm just not getting it. q link is off- (check) voice overlap is mono with mute group off ( check) filters are off ( check) i adjusted the attack and delay ( decay) settings too.

it's a basic 909 clap, both at the same level, both tuned the same, both 0-127 on the range. the 2nd lavered clap changes the pitch. and it's so random too, it'll go for 4 or 6 or 13 bars then all of a sudden one clap will change

i tried changing the level of the second sample, no go. i incrimentally changed the tuning of the second sample, no go.

it has something to do with the range setting,, when they're both all the way up to 127, it changes pitch, but when i move one down to 126, i lose the punch of the laver and can't get it back with volume.

this is strange.....

So if i am understanding correctly, both layers are the same sound? If this is the case, it sounds like maybe it is a phase problem, and every once in a while the MPC is playing 1 slightly later or earlier which is causing some phasiness. Try this: In TRIM mode adjust the start time of 1 of the 2 layers to be very slightly later (u might have to duplicate the sample and rename it a different name if both layers are the same sample and you only have it loaded into memory once). You might have to try a few different settings of this, but you should be able to get it to where you can't hear that 1 is starting later, but just enough so that it doesn't phase out. Experiment with it, in my experience, sometimes this move can make the sound even punchier than just doubling up alone.
