MPC 1000 & Reason midi

My question is on Sparq's vid on how to midi reason and the mpc 1k. It seems when he was was recordin without using the record feature. I thought midi was only musical notes. So my question(s) is how is Sparq recordin on the main screen(is this only available OS 2.0 upgrade, which Sparq was using). Second question is can someone give me the correct cable connections in lamest terms to record from Reason like Sparq does. Holla

Sparq was recording a MIDI track, this means he is using his MIDI keyboard to record notes into the mpc which is then telling reason to play these notes.

In response to your second question, he isn't recording from reason, the mpc is playing reason live, ie there is no audio playing apart from the drums. to connect the mpc to reason, you need one MIDI cable going from either MIDI output on your mpc to any available midi in on your computer. then setup your reason song and mpc track as Sparq does in the video, and you should be set!

remember, you are recording MIDI notes into the mpc using your keyboard, and the mpc is merely telling reason to play them. so the sound will be coming from your computer (except, of course any mpc samples!)

to add to what was said, i also have a midi cable going from from my midid keyboard's out to my mpc midi in. i have two midi interfaces because i also use nuendo as master to my mpc being a slave therefore i have my lexicon omega's midi out going to my mpc midi in and the midi keyboard going to the other midi in on the mpc. i have my midi out going to my lexicon midi in to use with reason.

if you have something like cubase, live or something that rewire reason, you can rewire those reason tracks there and then have the option of exporting those tracks to individual wav files as samples to import to the mpc. that's not how i do it but it's just a work around.

yes but if i have saved my seq on the mpc (using reason as sound module)how can i transport them on reason soft sequencer?

you save the seq on the mpc and you save the reason file as a reason file so when you want to work on that song again, you just open the reason file and load up the seq on the mpc.

thanks for all the info... is there any other way to export or track out your beat without rewiring reason?

but yeah, you can solo each track and render your song as a wav file for however many tracks you have

no problem. i've been doing the solo/trackout method for a long while, and i'm getting sick of it...i think i'm gonna learn to rewire reason to acid and make separate audio tracks for each reason track and then "render each track separately"

that is the easiest way to do it, but you can also convert each track from the mpc into a midi file, and then transfer these files to reason, and then use reason's export song as audio file function.

doing it that way you have to make sure you bring the sounds you used on the mpc over to reason also.
