MPC 2000XL and a computer...

madness speaks the truth. moreover, you never know how the gear you use is going to influence you in the long run... many people get an MPC cause they're into hip hop, or whatever, but i'm sure some people get into hip hop because of working with an MPC (i'm thinking of myself here). Reason may be cheap and cool and all, but if every song you make on it sounds like the Knight Rider theme then I don't care how much money you saved, it's still sh!t. On the other hand, don't buy an MPC just to show it off to your boys, or to trigger yer samples in cubase... there are other (and better) products to do those things (guns and novation style midi controllers, if you're wondering).

Anybody using Reason along with the MPC? I took a listen to the new Jagged Edge album (titled, "Hard") which has tracks done totally on Reason as well tracks created only using hardware. I definitely can hear differences in the timbre, especially in the "fullness" of the drum sounds.

It seems that the drums from the MPC "knock" much better than Reason's. However Reasons synth sounds are not to be underestimated.
I think using both would be great if you can get your hands on them. Any responses are welcome. Thanks.

Noble5 and Triplegreen are right. I have XP runnin on a very fast Athlon AMD CPU, 512mb ram, 2 30gb HD's (1 for OS and 1 for audio), SB audigy platinum internal drive as well, and I have app problems like once every 2-3 months but not with the OS itself so far (knock on wood). It can be good when strong enough but not stable enough sometimes...

I only use the computer to record my final finished product. I'll track everything out individually so I can solo ,mute and etc.. to the final track. I pretty much use any recording software that I can get my hands on. You can check some of our tracks at www.masmuzic.com
