My new 80 gig hitachie hard drive is full??

Hi
I just got my first mpc so I am new to the mpc world. This is the best piece of equipment i have bought. And the collaberation on this site is amazing.

I just encounterd mi first problem.

I was trying install the recomended 80 gig hitachi hardrive but it ses that it's full. My first tought was that i needed to format it some way. Has anyone encounter a problem like this or has any suggestion.

no I can't becuase i don't have a laptop to put the harddisk on it to formate it. Or can it be done on the mpc?

....of course you can (in fact, you must). Haven't you got the manual?

no, you format it on the mpc. i hope your HD is blank or you have a way of moving your files off of it until you finish formatting it.

press mode+pad 2 or 3 (load/save. it doesn't matter which one) go to utilit (F3), select which media you want to format, then press F6 (Do It)

tanx for the info i was going to do it on someone els es laptop.You guys safed mi a one hour trip. I only read the installation part of the manual.

It worked out fine i finaly have more space to safe. now I am waiting for my ram and dvd drive and i will be all set to lay down those beats.

I'm also having a problem with my Hitachi 80GB drive... I just installed it according to all directions, but when I go to press mode+pad 2 (load/save) and go to utilit (F3), the hard disk doesn't show up!

Is it safe to say that the hard disk was dead on arrival?

Also, I might add... I installed the 128RAM expansion and it showed up instantly. No problems there.

I also just carefully took the 80GB HD out and re-installed it. Still doesn't show up under Utilities.

So what next?

Just to make sure: when you're in utility (F3) did you spin the datawheel to select the different media?

Yes, I spun the data wheel and all that is available for FORMATTING is Memory Card.

What next?

What happens when you connect the MPC to your computer with USB, does the computer see the HD?
