I have to agree, I can't stand that Southern music.. personally, I haven't heard anything that made my head nod, but who the hell am I.. theyre still making money, so my opinion really doesn't mean schyt. East Coast has always been my kinda flava, but they fell off years ago. There's too many Master P wannabees out there now. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard NY immatating them. I can remember Master P complaining that NY didn't support him, and now half of you are trying to be like him. Heatmakers sound like they got a lot of Mannie fresh in their drums too.
I grew up listening to the old school. Special Ed, Big daddy Kane, Antoinette, juice crew was the schyt, but after 1996, something happened.
Now, I think it's time for other areas to get it's shine on. I'm hearing some REAL hip-hop coming from areas like, Baltimore, Cali, my town, Detroit. Overseas, it's in full effect in England, France, Germany, Japan, and many other places that I haven't mentioned.
I think since Hip-Hop went White collar, money is the influence, and not the love for the music. America in general is influenced by money. That's why ****** in the ghetto cry broke, but wear $200 gym shoes and fake ice. Overseas, these guys can't get on like we can, so the money isn't a factor, they concentrate their energy on the music. The chance of a guy from France getting big in America is slim, so they simply make good music to make music. Over here, dukes rap on a 50 cent beat, hussle it in the street, and hope to get a million dollar deal.
Even though I live here in the good ol U.S. of A, the birthplace of hip-hop, we portray the poorest example of what real hip-hop is all about. If you wanna see some realness, go overseas. Many of them still do this thing called 'breakdancing.' remember that? We said it was 'played-out' 2 decades ago. They still respect a DJ, and they have a love for REAL graffitti. Real hip-hop is alive and kicking, but you have to look a lot deeper than MTV to find it.

Hip-Hop, in my opinion, only lives in the "underground" and as stated earlier overseas. N*ggaz over there truly appreciate ALL the facets of Hip-Hop. Nowadays muf*ggaz don't even have a DJ. Florida) and all I hear when kids want to buy my beats is the same wack bullshit I see on the T.V. and hear on the radio...In regards to music, the only dope kids that I have met down here are my boy Billz, my boy 101, and my homie Vakseen...That is three out of the hundreds I have met in my 19 years living here...Wack ish right? I hate to say it, but down here is the last place that most underground artists plan to seek a career...Most underground dudes avoid this area altogether when it comes to shows...I have to travel to either central or northern FL to see any good concerts...Some people love it down here, but I'm moving up towards Tallahassee pretty soon...The scene up there is sick...I hate music down here...Other than some of the rare dope M.C.'s and Producers mentioned in other posts, there isn't much good ish down here, and that is a fact...But whatever...That's just my two cents...

im aware of them, outkast was good untill andre flipped out, everyone else on that list is garbage and nothing to be taken seriously, although goodie mobb has had some good moments

To the south florida cats y'all need to hit up I/O lounge (iolounge.com) in Miami when the artists come down. They usually have a calendar of events up. So far I've seen Krs, Boot Camp, De La, Brand Nubian. And Club Revolutions in Ft. Lick. Saw Talib a few weeks ago, Pharoah Monch, Macy Grae, Mos Def. Lot of underground hedz too like Garcia, Cunninglinguist, dude who won that Roc-A-fella thing. Can't remember his name. I had something going on every last monday in Hollywood until they enforced that new ordinance where clubs can't have DJ's past 12am

Whoa... let's not target the Dips! Dipset has great taste in beats and has something fresh... Not lyrically futuristic but they keep it gully and ignant so you can get wild to it, it's fun and not for nothing the lyrics is funny, don't take them too serious and you'll enjoy it.
As far as the south, I can't target a whole region because you got cats like Scarface and Ludachris that got dope stuff coming out the south, just like I can't target the midwest for bringing out Crucial Conflict when they got Kanye and Jay Dilla also... plus Outkast's first two albums were bangers and you got cats like my boys Audio Composers League that rep that real underground stuff in Florida.
