can you choose starting and end points in your slices or does it auto-slice leaving no flexibility. Slicing samples is very important to me and i need to know this before purchasing the 2500. And is the time stretching better on this than the 2000XL? My options are to buy a used 2000xl or a new 2500. can I get sone help?

You can slice automatically or manually. After the sample is sliced, you can adjust the start and end points of the sliced samples individually.

The timestretch function in the 2000XL is unusable for anying longer than a few seconds...it is like a snail. The 2500 is 10x as fast as an 2000XL...maybe more. However, with the current OS for the 2500, it has some 'bugs' in the tinestretch function. Check a few threads down and read about the 'bugs' in detail.
