MPC2k XL vs. Korg Triton Le

Goin head to head, what are the pros and cons of each compared to each other? I've had my MPC2k XL for a few months, but don't find myself using it as much as I thought I would. I still do most of my sample beats with computer software. But I think I could be more productive with a Triton due to its sound library and what not. Well, can I get a few opinions please? Thanks.

ive heard good and bad things about the triton. it does seem to get "pro use" but that might be just cause korg loves to throw free gear at famous artists (for example, check the interior of the neptunes' "clones" disk where they are both holding the dinky korg microsynths. I will bet money that those arrived free in the mail the day before the photo shoot).

I don't know about any new piece of kit in your studio making you more productive, however. It seems to me whenever I get a new bit of kit I become less productive as I have to spend time figuring out how to make it work.

Don't let gear lust get in the way of making music. There is always going to be some bit of kit that'll seem tempting, ie "if only I had x then i'd be able to make my beats that much better." Resist Resist Resist this urge... the only piece of kit you need to make good music came attached to the sides of your head at birth.

You really can't compare the two.. one is a sampler/sequencer, and the other is a workstation. I would sample the triton and send it back.. I had the triton LE for about 6 months and barely ever used it. I think too many people rave(ed) about the triton when it was new, but it's so overused now.. you can't say the same about the MPC because it has no sounds, so unless your loading up the same ol drum kits, it can sound brand new each time you turn it on.

I've had the MPC2000XL ever since it was first available in stores. I love this thing. It's my second sampler and sequencer. I guess it depends on what type of music you create. I know when I just had the MPC2000XL, I had to sample everything. The vibe I got from that was mainly underground B-Boy type Hip Hop beats. I then purchased the Triton Rack and it gave me another type of feel when I had the MPC2000XL connected with it. It gave me a more commercial Hip Hop type beats. I guess you can consider that the Triton LE is like the Triton Rack. I mainly do R&B, Hip Hop, Gospel and remixes. Alright, my 2 cents. I 've always lusted a triton. I ranted and raved so much the my "keeping up with the joneses" cousin ran and bought one. He let me borrow it for three weeks so I can learn it and teach him. The triton has some awesome sounds and it just looked sexy but I wouldn't buy it because i had equipment for each function the triton did and they did it better. But it was a well executed example that made everybody else run back and started updating their flagship workstations. Now comparisons:

Sequencer takes some learning ( i did some heavy reading)
no big informative touch screen like it's bigger brother (trust me, you'll need it!)

Can sample (but will not be as good as the le with the upgrade)
Got the hang of the sequencer in about a half hour (if you used a drum machine before then learning this machine is a piece of cake)
you're going to need more equipment (no sounds and it was designed to be in the center of your production)

The triton le is a good buy cause you can complete albums with the thing from the box unlike the mpc. But If I did things differently, I would have still bought my mpc over the triton. I used to be a drummer,I love drums, and it replaced my mmt-8 and allowed me to divorce cakewalk for adobe auditon (cool edit pro)

units, I could give you a little insight on each. Both are sequencers (MPC 64 track sequencer, Triton LE 16 track sequencer), but only the MPC is a standard sampler (you have to install the EXB-SMPL to upgrade the LE to a sampler). In my opinion, this is the only way the LE can compete with the MPC. Of course, the LE has internal sounds and they aren't cheesy as most people think. It has the exact sound generator as the Classic and Studio version, but not as many insert effects (1 .vs 5). The LE has a low pass and high pass filter, which can make wicked basses. The MPC needs the MPC42 analog filter to do that (which I've heard didn't do a good job). No floppies dealing with the LE, instead you use (up to 128MB) smartmedia cards. To load samples into the LE, you need a SCSI cable hooked up to a cd-rom or zip drive. Once you've got your samples loaded, you can assign them across your keyboard (similar to the MPC 16 level function). I believe the only advantage the LE has over the MPC is that you can save user made kits (i.e., drum, piano, horns, heck, any sound) as a program. It just takes away that extra step of finding that disk you want to use and loading the sounds. These are a few examples of each I could think of. I couldn't tell you which one to choose over the other. I learned how to make beats on a drum machine and I always will keep my MPC as my main instrument. I like the Triton because it adds an extra dimension to my tracks. It's a nice workstation, but it's not necessary to have. Since you use software, check out some softsynths. You'll definitely save money going that route. I've been messing 'round with the demo verison of Project5 and it's pretty amazing. I hope my 2 cents helped you. Peace...
