I f were You I'd get the 1000,who wants to be searching for zip drives on ebay plus they're unreliable,I had a 2000 and it was a pain in the ass dealing with those disks, since I bought my 1000 I've been pretty happy with it,it's the future along with the 2500,mostly because of that usb connection and more reliable storage media, and when the OS comes out it'll be even more fun to work with.good luck.

Peace

Nothing wrong with reading Scratch to find out what the big boyz are using. Why would you not want what the big boyz use??

Reading Scratch is no different then reading what goes on in these forums. Yes, there are plenty of MPC 1000s users here..because it is the first reasonably priced MPC. For straight seqeuncing MIDI sound modules...the 2000XL is just as powerful as any MPC and I would get it hands down over the 1000m, which still doesn't have some of the XLs sample editing features. Now with the new OS, it makes the 1000 more attractive..but these added features are not blind blowing. The features that it will receive is already in the 2500...and as a 2500 user, I have never raved one bit about how great those features are...with the exception of the MIDI bank select functions.......

My advice...get a used MPC 2000XL with a sound module. Once you master it, you will love it. If in another year, you want a similar MPC but with more power...get the 2500, which should have its OS issues ironed out.

RIGHT ?

In the long run yeah the 1k will be the better buy because of it's transfering ability. I just sold the 2000XL best move for me. I'm a 20yr.Vet !

It's your call. T" 8)

Just to pipe in, the thing you should be most concerned about, IMO, is the sound of the unit.

Does the 2000XL sound better? Or the 2500? I haven't compared, but I suspect the preamps and components are identical.

Now, if one of the other models sounded better, that's one thing. But if the sound in all 3 is identical, which I'm sure it is, then the 1000 looks better and better.

really they all sound differently plus thier sequencers sound a little differently. expecially the swing- although as everybody knows every single mp has a very strong cult following so you need to decide for yourself. with hte exception of the 1000 and 2500 of course that sound identical. 2000 and 2000xl, etc.

if u look at how long this people from scratch have been producing ull understand because the 2kxl was the best of there times so they copped it and became big so they dont need new equiptment thats why not much have the 1k beause the 1k didnt come out too long ago but i felt like u in da beggining like damn i shoulda copped the 2k but now that i see it im recieving this os that contains everything the 2k has but intill now i still want a 2k but at the same time no because my 1k has cf cards and the 2k has zip or w/e so im happy with my purchase because im making music just think about it like this if u got dope skills with dope sounds u make dope music and the machine is only helping u record it cause the machine does what u make it do but the 2k dosent have anything on my mpc exept the flip screen

get at some other producers that own both like sparq

By klixxx Fri Dec 30, 2005 2:35 am
so one thing u guys are saying is the reason these big producers have the mpc 2000xl because it was out way b4 the mpc 1000...
are you guys saying indirectly that if the mpc 1000 with the new OS would have came out at the same time as the mpc 2000xl, that all those produicers would have copped a 1000?
thx for all the input.. but its becoming hard to decide.. one expert member tells me that he sold his xl and baught a 1000 and it was the best move hes made... one guy tells me to get the 2kxl (and one guy is tellin me to get one of those souped up 20 pad 2500 looooool)
i knew the decision was gonna be hard but not to this point...
i agree with the fact that its the guy using the machine that makes great beats and not the machine itself.. but if u compare this to djing... i used to own stanton turntables and i was doin fine... once i got my 1200s everything changed for the better
thx again to everyone that has helped me !!!

no im not saying that directly if they came out at the same time everyone would have copped it becasue if it did the 1k would be expensive back then cause there wasnt all this technology but people with money woula had the 1k but i dont know its up to u i rather want a machine that does everything that one does but with more tecchnology(1k) but its up to u i love the cf cards and pretty soon the 40gig hd ohh and everything the 1k has that the 2k has the 1k does it faster [time stretch for example] but its up to u i filled u with as much info as i can but u have to close this decision now

First..many of the producers in Scratch are up and coming producers..not all of them are big time.

The only reason to get an MPC 1000 today vs an MPC 2500 is the cost.

If you can use one MPC, you can use all of them. There is no real learning curve. Producers that been in the game for awhile that use older MPCs continue to use them because they don't need all those extra bells and whistles. I jumped from an MPC 3000LE to the 2500 because I wanted the more advanced MIDI functions. If the sound of the 2500 was so bad....or the sound of the 3000 was so mind blowing..I wouldn't have made the switch.

If the MPC 1000 is the new black model then 2.0 OS is already installed. The editing and the resampling functions will be quicker, easier, and better than on a 2000 or 2000XL plus the unit is portable. The 2500 will have Autochop and a few more extras that the 1000 doesn`t plus bigger pads. The blue and red model still runs on the 1.07 OS until the 2.0 OS model and it is discontinued anyway.

The advantage of your situation is that you are a brand new user to MPCs in general so you won`t have the baggage and hangups of current users coming from earlier modals of MPCs they are pretty much all sequencers based on 96ppqs res except the 4k. What is really important is that you master the one piece of gear you will purchase and in the future you won`t need to buy anything else in 2007. Technology is always progressing but the MPCs have been in used and alot of pros still use the MPC 60 since 1987 and beyond 2010. It`s up to you. Your budget, your room size, your current gear setup and your future usage of the gear. 8)

First? do you have an older MPC? if you do then your comment is makes nosense. I owned a 2000XL - play with the mp60, and recorded an album
on the 3000. If I had my picked out of them all I would pick 3000,because
of it's punchier and thick sound with out running it to a mixer. but it doesn't
have the transfer usb to PC compatible. with the 1k pristine sound,at least 32-94 bit sound and grung 12bit effect, which we only here 16 bit linear anyway, still your comment is mistakenly wrong and somewht confusing, not everyone is into the mpc maybe reason,Logic ,Cubase,Etc.

There is nothing wrong w/ the 2000xl. If you can find a used one for a good price, upgrading to the MCD is easy. You really have to try both out, but I can't say the 1000 is better than the 2000xl. It depends on preference. Plus no one really knows when 2.0 is coming out anyway, and we all know the XL time stretches be it fast or slow. If you want portability, which is the reason I got the 1k, get the 1k. If that doesnt matter to you, at least look at the 2kxl too.

go to guitar center or something. try them all out. write out a chart with all the features that are important to you and then compare each model. as a matter of fact someone posted a comparison chart on the boards here not too long ago. the chart had all the MPC's and their respective features.

personally, I started sampling with a ASR-x pro. so I was used to something different (effects, high and low pass filters etc). I got recently got back into music and copped a 2000xl. It's dope. But the work flow was not intuitive to me. It wasn't what I was used to. So, I got a 1000. Now I'm more comfortable. It's easier to work. Regardless of os 2.0/ If 2.0 never came out, I'd still prefer the 1000. I love the compact flash cards, usb, effects. You can do somethings in real time that you can't do on the 2000xl (time correct) you're not limited to the 4 drum program banks. ALSO, I never used the time stretch on the 2000xl b/c it was so amazingly SLOW. I did use the zone feature. But now i just used recycle. drag and drop from the PC. its seemless . .

i must admit that the pads are not nearly as nice on the 1000. but thats a minor tossup if you ask me. Every MPC has its strenghts and weaknesses. Ask 10 MPC users what their favorite feature is and you'll probably get 10 different answers. Look at what features YOU need in your set up and I'm sure you can find an MPC to complement.
