Asr 10 - Should i or not?

I seen an ad in the LA recycler for an ASR 10 that "turns on but doesn't boot" for $299. Do you think this is worth spending 3 bills plus more to get it fixed or should I just seek out one that already works? and how well does it work with a 2kxl?? I have a K Station but its not multitimbral which REALLY SUCKS, so I'm looking to get another keyboard. any ideas thoughts. thanks.[/color]

look for a working one. u could get one off ebay 4 about 600 & up. u might as well get one at this price cuz sometimes theyre full blown. u might end up payin extra 2 fix it.[/color]

if it was an easy cheap fix they probably would of fixed it and got the full amout of what it was worth.e-bay is a great place to screw people over.[/color]

DO NOT BUY IT AT ALL!!!!!
I have an asr-10 and they are impossible to fix, most places wont touch em cuz they are complicated (as far as old samplers go) and real old, which means that there is no reliable way to get parts for it.  if whatever is wrong turns out to be semi-major (like the fdd is broken, or the midi stuff dont work, or one of the boards is burnt, scsi is gone, it will cost mad $$$$ for parts, which will HAVE to be canibalized from another asr-10 and they you will have to install it urself. If you know alot about electonics (i happen to have a close buddy who was an EECS Geek-electrical engineering and computer science, at Berkeley with me so he can fix anything i need fixed, he actually broke into laughter when he took apart my asr-10 and saw what was running it) then go for it, its complcated but if ur an electical engineering student or know one, they can fix it, most def. other then that i would onyl buy a working one and demand (as i did) a "test" period where you can try it all out for a week and if its bunk, get ur $$$$ back.
but, that aside, the asr-10 is an awesome sampler and has a super dope feeling keyboard, and kick butt efx, the sequencer is BUNK but that's why u have an MPC 2000.......[/color]

Try out an emu e5000 with the rfx unit.  Also these tend to be buggy.  When I leave mine alone for some time it gets a fatal error.  But the rfx rocks and the sound is really clean and tight.  It seems like asr 10's and emu samplers sounds great but are as buggy as a garbage dump on a hot summer day.[/color]

That ads been there for so long! I check the recycler religiously, and I'll have to agree with Ed. Its not worth it, to hard to find and replace parts plus, you can find one full blow or close to, for about 700 bones. If you already have the MPC check that ad in there for the ASR-X for 450.[/color]

the creators - uk hip hoppers made the "hard margin" on an asr 10 -theve since ditched it in favour of the mpc 2k - listen to the other guys comments - VERY expensive to mend if it "falls ova"
