what prog is better,,cool edit pro or soundforge?

depends on what you trying to acheive. Cool Edit multitracks and has decent sound editing and batch processing. Sound Forge doesn't multi track (the last time I seen it in use anyways) but has superior sound editing.

Sound Forge is a dedicated editing program so it will has tighter editing features. However, Cool Edit Pro is a lot more useful with all the things you need for your music project as a whole. I have both programs but I mainly use Cool Edit to edit my samples before I chop them up and sequence them.

This is true, SF is a wave editor ONLY.. CEP is a wave editor AND multitracker..

SF is interface ia a little more user friendly also. CEP got it beat due to Mulitracking capabilities though. For a WHOLE project from start to finish choose CEP.. If you are just looking for a STRONG wave editor then choose SF..
