Just copped the Legacy collection digital and the M1 is ridiculous. i bought a m1 back in 95 and sold it in 98. it was my second synth, first i had a roland d-5. i remember the m1 being ok, but this emulation is really sick. the reason why it is sick is because it has every expansion card already loaded and ready to go. i have a triton and going through the legacy sound really shows the heritage of the triton, and some of the sounds in the legacy even sound better than the triton updates. I thought the sounds would sound dated, but they really don't. now for the bad... this thing is cpu intensive, and i think that is the reason why it sounds so good. so if u have a weak comp stay away. the wavestation update from the original legacy collection is ok, but the m1 is more my cup of tea.

at $150 it rivals every synth i have ever owned.
they really gave me too much for what it costs.
how many times can that be said about gear.

A year or so ago, I talked with a cat who was one of the people involved in designing the sounds for the Korg DW4000 or DW1000 synth. It is the father of the M1. He talked about how those samples are the building blocks of Korg's whole sound arsenal.

He said that the the Triton and the other all have nuch more memory/ram which allows for more features (including a higher bit count & bigger samples) and FX, but that the soundset is almost the same.

I have a Korg T3 and recently copped a Korg TR-Rack. I can attest to the similarities.

no doubt and they have mastered making synths trhat produce full sounds. the problem i have with roland is that their romplers sound thin.

Yeah. The M1 was a breath of fresh air in a world dominated by DX7s.
That real-ish sound palette was refreshing to your ears and your mixes.
Lots of people think they are played out now.
...but they are using 808 sounds and damn near every other ole skool sample sound out there on their tracks.

Whatever.

if i makes us happy, it's all good.
