Proper Setup of Brand New MPC?

Fresh MPC 4k from under the Xmas Tree
Read Thru The Manual

Going thru some of the default sounds, and realizing that this will take a bit of time to setup before I can start efficent production

Any suggestions? My thought process is

Most logical thing would prob try to find some samples, as I have a decent size of vinyls and turntable, maybe go to Guitar Center and go thru some of those sample DISC

Anyone take the time to organize their default harddrive, if so any particular ingenius structure?

Also do you use the MPC only or do you use software programs such as Sound Forge/Wavelab and for what do you use them for untill you go back into your MPC?

I am a sampling noob, so Im trying to learning the editing sample things like LFO, ENV, FILTER, and AMPs, if you got a link I'll be in your debt

I loaded up some default stuff, got some decent drums, loaded up some instruments and made a fool outta myself, My Muscian Skills from 1-10 are -2 (

Finding use for the Q-LINK in my sequences is kinda mind boggling as well

Congratulations! Santa is still a nice guy afterall. He just ate my cookies and took my $20.00. I understand the concern for the learning curve. I've heard that the 4000 takes a minute to learn, but it's well worth it. It takes a minute to get some skills on any instrument. Relax and hang in there.

I've kinda strayed away from asking other MPC4k users questions as they typically aren't helpful, then others just tend to yap about the buggy OSs

Found http://www.maui.net/~ajna/Q-LINK.html for a little Q-Link information, but I've decide to spend the day taking all the default stuff off the harddrive then organizing it into some logical productive order, as they pretty much threw stuff everywhere

Then start going thru some sounds I have on my computer and get them over to my mpc for the day

Tommorrow hopefully I'll just be turning the vinyl all day for a few song ideas and organize those into folders

I'm a MPC 4000 user myself. You can ask away any questions maybe I can help. I just started organizing my HD on the MPC cause shit can get messy with 60 gigs of audio. I save Projects to opne folder, bass samples, xfx waves, giutar licks, all to diffrent folders and so on. Besides sampleing the MPC is a monster for midi control of other devices. You may want to pick up a rack synth like a MoPhatt or something.
I got a 1000 under the tree so I know where your coming from .

Ya my organization looks sorta similar cept I prob have it broken down more, I tend to just load the whole folder (be glad when you can stream off harddrive), I have a Motif Rack, but I haven't really gotten into it that deeply, as the instruments from my brief viewing sound pretty good and realistic, but that means I'd have to edit them, and I've been converting alot of soundfonts and refills as they tend to be 90% ready, but I've kinda been lazy and learning at the same time

But now since you've suggested it, I'll crack the book tommorrow and learn the Rack, since Yamaha isn't known for its user friendlyness
