Jahrome,

Why are you so hard up on defending akai? You're so passionate about pointing out fine details & features of the 2500. You're not needed to educate people. We can research sh!t on our own. Are ya on the endorsement list? Furthermore i think you're stance on:

"laughing every time you read posts from people that 'get annoyed' about something they don't own or may not really need" is quite insensitive yo.

Again....akai potential buyers are getting turned off & speaking poorly about akai. I've supported akai since 1988....& I along with thousands of XL to 2500 users are annoyed & frustrated we gotta be put thru this time consuming bullsh!t.

PS...suppose you have a 96 tempo .SEQ saved by the XL & then load this sequence into the 2500... the tempo info will NOT be imported. Nor will sample (parameter) tunings. SAD akai real SAD!

theres no reason that it shouldnt be compatible, thats like upgrading from windows 2000 to XP and your word files wont open

No quite...the MPC 2000XL was released in 1999...Akai was designing them as early as 1997/1998. I have windows programs/files that were created on/for Windows 98 that don't quite function/open right on Window's XP.

debonaire,

I am hard for defending Akai the same reason why many are hard at bashing them.

I am not needed to educate people? What is the purpose of this forum? To exchange info..good or bad. If you learn something from these exchanges..good for you..if not, than don't read any of the posts. It is a public forum and everyone is entitled to open communication. I didn't insult anyone. But I enjoy cracking jokes (from time to time so funny..some not  ).

I like Akai products. There are many more that hate/dislike them...but continue to show up in this forum dedicated to Akai products. What's wrong with one person liking these products. This forum would just be a place for complainers if it wasn't for guys like me that find something positive. So you can be negative and I will play the other side of the field...cool. :D

So for me to laugh at people that get annoyed at something they don't own is 'insensitive '?? I am so..so..sorry. Well..I get annoyed for all the  but instead of insults, I crack jokes and post useful information from time to time. Don't be so sensitive

So you are among the thousands of XL users that Akai is putting through time consuming shitz?? Akai didn't do anything to you. They are not forcing you to buy one. Maybe one day it will fit your needs...or maybe not. I own a 2500..it needs to be worked on..never hid this fact. But it satisfy my needs. If someone complians about a certain feature, I will give a work around if I know one. I am entitled to post this info as you are to complain about it.

Again...the 2500 is not fully compatible with the XL with its current OS 1.00b. I knew it would have issues when I bought it. If you thought it was going to be perfect...then you do need me to educate you

One.....until next time....

Go Steelers!

There are many XL users that use it mainly as a sequencer for sound modules/keyboards. They are doing just fine with the 2500.

Also, thanks for keeping me on my toes. Yes, the 2500 does have its own ALL files in addition to Project files. Maybe there is hope that it will read XL ALL files in the future....so we will have a few less complainers and

I was forced to spend more money with akai to retrofit my 2000XL with a CF reader in order for me to load data into the 2000XL via the SCSI port & then save to CF to then eject the card & insert into the 2500.

I have (no lie) something like 400+ songs composed on the 2000XL i now need to modify for use on the 2500. What fvckin' drama yall. To all of you cats out there with a similar situation PLEASE PLEASE call akai tech support & let them know its straight up bvllsh!t. If anything drop 'em an email. Power in numbers mates.

They gotta do somethin' about it ASAP. Get that OS up!

I haven't upgraded, never planned to, but just for support of a fellow consumer of the same product, and not wanting to get fvcked in the future, I'm going to write a letter also...
Very helpful information...

dont get me wrong I love my 2500 and I did take the time myself to transfer most of my files from the xl

yes some people do use it mainly as a sequencer for external modules but right now thats still on the level of the 2000xl with only midi ch. A & B functioning properly

like i said dont get me wrong I LOVE my 2500 and think its the best MPC I've owned

...and about ur old windows files not opening in XP is probably a mistake, I put money on it that it wasnt there intention for them not to be compatible

I am just stating that because u mentioned akai as a business, and with any business the most important aspect is the CONSUMER (Mktg 3832)

Even with the issues..the 2500 is light years beyond the XL. It is not even close really. Akai needs to fix the MIDI ports, but there quite a few new features as well as beefed up older featureson the 2500.

A company will never be able to satisfy ALL consumers. But give them time...the 2500 will be as solid as all the other MPCs.

As far as XP....when you Right-click on a program, you can set the Capatibility Mode. This BS doesn't always work. I have had programs that were created for Windows 98 and using XPs capatibility mode...they still don't work. Also..do you really think Microsoft cares for their consumers any more than Akai?? Lets not start talking about their business practices.........

jahrome the way you defend this aspect of the 2500 makes no sense.

Yes you're right that Akai cannot satisfy every customer with every feature they desire, but this is something totally different!

Backwards compatability should be right up at the top of the list for critical features. It just doesn't make sense for this to not be included on the first OS.

They should have spent a little more time developing to ensure that people don't get pissed off by what could be a major issue, instead of rushing the product out!

A lot of people read this board and to have this issue flagged up could put off a lot of potential customers.

So I should just join the rest of whiners and complainers?? And act like a little girl..complaining to anyone that will listen in the forums......

I think not! There are already too many girlie-men in the forums. My wife bought it for me the day it dropped and shipped it from Japan. I bought it knowing full well that it may have issues. I checked it over and reported what I found directly to Akai and also in a thread in the forums. I got my message across. I don't need to keep writing them with the same ol same. I would much rather have my hands on the new MPC 2500..with its issues...instead of Akai waiting to release it with everything ironed out. My choice was to get it immediately. You have the choice to get it when it does have the features you want.

Again....Akai clearly stated on several of their websites what MPCs its compatible with. Please deal with it so you can get on with the rest of your life. You (among several others) sound like a disgruntled girlfriend :?

So what are you going to do now?? You know it doesn't have the features you find is important. Why do you care if customers that don't own a 2500 is pissed off for not having certain features? Its not putting money in/or taking money out of your pocket. If Akai didn't rush to put it out..what would you be talking about in the forums today (that hasn't been written about a hundred times before)? Alot of people who read the boards are pissed or turned off? Do you mean the ones that own an MPC 2500? Or the ones that have no intentions on spending more than 2x what they paid for their 2000XL...the window shoppers? Who are you talking about...and does it really matter?

So I ask again...what are you going to do know? Start re-saving all your beatz (since you are using an XL...I guess it will take forever  ) today..and by the time you finish...the MPC 2500 may have the issues closest to your heart ironed out. Until then...is there anything else you want to discuss besides ALL files with me or any other member in the forum?

Lol, here's where you destroy me...

I dont own an MPC yet!!!

So as you can guess it doesn't bother me in the slightest but i just think it's strange that Akai would not make it completely backwards compatible from the word go.

Yes i will be window shopping around this forum for a while, £1k is a lot of money to blow so i want to make sure it's the right thing to do!

And no, you don't have to whine like the girlie men

Anyways yeah i have got something else i want to discuss in another thread regarding other 2500 questions, see you soon 8)

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that this unit isn't meant to be a replacement for the 2KXL. The price alone says that. It's more of a mid-level upgrade, made to sit between the 2KXL and the 4K. Their line officially contains four different levels of MPCs.

As to the compatibility issue, I dig that many of you are upset, but I agree that Akai is not holding a gun up to your head to buy the 2500. I can't understand the frustration. It wouldn't be the first time that a company didn't provide full compatibility with other versions, nor will it be the last. Heck, think about the MPC60 owners who weren't supported when the MPC2K came out. One of my partners was a 60 owner and he was crap outta luck. If you've been around the music instrument scene for more than 3 years, you'll understand that that's JUST how it goes, and it hasn't hurt anybody's pockets in the least bit.

I'm not saying it's cool or right, but it's a fact of life.
Peace

I made the switch too, and it just took time and persistance. I had 6 years worth of work to transfer. I tracked all of my tracks onto Protools and backed them up as PGM & SEQ files. It is definatley a time constraint but think about it once that's done you will have a machine that is 100 times better. It took me about a week.
