2000 Help

I'm new to the forum and I have a question about my mpc-2000. How do you zone the samples into like 8 zones on the 2000. The book I have is for the XL and everything does not apply. Any help would be appreciated.

don't know exactly what you mean by "zone" but the answer probably is "by hand." in other words you need to put each sound you want on each key, there ain't no zones that you find with a conventional sampler (where you assign a single sample to a range of keys). remember the mpc is drum sampler... if you try to make it behave like a conventional sampler you'll be missing out on what its good at.

On the XL you're able to zone your sample into between 1-16 zones. In the zone screen. That option is not available on the 2000 atleast not from what I'm able to tell. If i could get my hands on a regular 2000 manual I could find out.

Right, there is no zone chopping on the regular 2000.

I haven't been able to find a copy of the non-XL pdf, though. Printed mine a long time ago from the old akai site.

yet another difference between the classic 2000 and the xl i didn't know about. if i didn't love my classic 2000 so much id start to get jealous

I'm going to have to look into upgrading to the xl. Thanx for the feedback to all that posted.

keep your 2000 and think about upgrading to a 4000 or even the new roland thing... or maybe you should think of downgrading to a 60...
another thought: you can get the s2000/s3000 cheap on ebay these days, and even the flagship s6000 goes for around six hundred. You combine that with your old school 2000 and you'll be able to make all the "zones" you want...

I was actually looking at the 4000 today and I think that's the way I'm going to go. The Roland option is not an option . I'll stick with what I know works as far as Sampling workstations.
