The easy answer (and the one I will always give) is to turn off the quantise - real drummers dont use quantise templates! If your drums sound rigid, play them like a real drummer and dont rely on a computer template to do the work for you.

Try to feel what your doing...Loosen Up before your start.

Secondly, try and hear the beat in your head before you start, that way you can hear where you want things to go.

A crash course of advise would be to try and copy a hip hop break , loop , tune you like and see how close you can it. Copying tracks is challenge but rewarding at the same time. A lot of the loose feel you are after is in the hi hat programming (use velocity changes - Hats should be at different levels to create that in and out swing feel)

Try that for size and see how you get on

The easy answer (and the one I will always give) is to turn off the quantise

A very good point. Personally, I always quantise my Kick & Snare but with hats, its off. We all got are ways 8)

You'l get more out of it if you try 1st then ask later. Theres no 1 way to make any music. Understand the structure of the music 1st as a basic rule then go from there.

You need to know what it is you are trying to do b4 you try to do it...That initial thought process helps....leave the rest up to vibe!
