digital in/out

The 1k manual uses a cd player as an example of a digital audio source, that can be connected to the digital in on the 1k, isn't the audio source from a pc digital, how come when i hook it up no audio is transmitted to the mpc.

It depends on the sound card. Many PCs have built in sound cards with 1/8'' outsputs. These sound cards do not output digital signals. Your need a sound card that has an SPDIF digital output on an RCA type jack output.

or if your computer's soundcard does not have spdif outs on it and only has a 1/8" line out, you need to get a 1/8" to rca adapter.

how will that help? he wants digital!

i know the Creative cards have digital out on 1/8" connectors, but they are a proprietory connection, and i don't think they are compatible.

he would need a 1/8" to dual mono unbalanced 1/4" adapter, surely?

at that point, your entire computer becomes a sound source.

wait, i just read your question. when you have the digital outs connected, you can record from your mpc to your computer. the digital outs on the mpc carry the same signal as the main outs.

but what people were just talking about is connecting your computer to the digital ins. this way would be as i stated above.... to have your computer as a sound source for sampling into the mpc.

you can track your mpc to a DAW digitally, though some people prefer to do it via the analog connections. doing it that way means you have to do less tracking operations, but the sound won't be as clean.

yes, but i've done this already, i've connected the "line out" from my computer's integrated sound card to a RCA adapter and using the red (it doesn't matter which color) to connect to the digital in of the mpc and sampled "you got mail" from my computer. just to see if it would work. (done this back in 2004) i know i could have just used sound forge, acid, live or whatever but i just wanted to see if it could be done.

must've been a digital line out unless that adaptor you showed is an A/D converter?

okay, so how do i know if my soundcard produces a digital signal, and if so is there a setting i need to change on my computers control panel, cuz i tried what sparq did, but get no sound running through mpc, and don't know shiz about the soundcared cuz its just the one that came with my computer, i just know that i have an 1/8" out, already have the 1/8" to rca cable. thank for the help

it does if the outputport is marked SPDIF
on standard officemachines this is often used for 5.1 audio

the 1/8" out you have is most likely an analog out, unless it says otherwise. find out what sound card you have in your pc, and someone here should be able to tell you if it has a digital out on it.

to find out go to Start|Control Panel|Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices|Sounds and Audio Devices.

then on the window that pops up, it should say what sound card you have.

Mabey you should just work with what you know or need instead of asking what it could do. besides the manual kinde explain it perfectly.

yo have to have digtal outs. i have audigy gold sound card and i just hooked it right up and now everything that passes thru my sound card (obviously) i can record on my sampler. very **** conveint by the way
