Ok..fellow MPC 2500 users and window shoppers :D

I have found issues with using the Extract function in the Trim/Edit sample menu.

I started my evening session by recording a 2 bar break beat...a percussion loop for you un-hip MoFos :D This sample was named Sample03. Now..using the Extract Function, I attempt to extract the individual percussion sounds in this loop to make a drum kit. I started with the Kik drum. It worked perfectlty. Went back to Sample03 to Extract the Snare. It worked perfectly. When I went to scroll through the samples in memory...my Kik drum sample disappeared. I attemted this several times. Each time I created a new Sample using the Extract function...one or more of my previous Extracted samples disappears.

Can you guys give it a try to see what you get?

I havent had any samples to dissappear using the extract function

are u talking about as a patched phrase after chopping or extracting a reg. sample with the edit window

No...this has nothing to do with patched phrase. I am producing this every time working in the main Trim Screen with a normal/regular stereo sample.

I turned off my MPC and attempted it again.

1. I sample a drum loop in stereo, which is named by default as Sample01.
2. I set the start/end points using the Q-link sliders..and using the data wheel for fine tuning..to isolate the Kik drum in Sample01.
3. I use Extract to create Sample02 (Kik drum).
4. Going back to Sample01, I repeat the same steps to create Sample03..which will be the snare drum.
5. During this process, Sample02 to disappears.

I found that I only have to attempt to edit the start/end points of Sample01 for previous sounds created with Extract disappear.

It gets worse.

I sampled another beat. Then I use the edit functions to make several copies of the sample. If I change the start/end points of the original sample...all the copies disappear.

I narrowed this problem down...but just don't understand why it does what it does....

This problem happens with samples recorded for the CDM25 only  I tried sampling from my turn table and loading samples that I already have on the HD...no problems.

But soon as I sample for the CDM25...make copies of a sample..and then edit the original...all the copies are GHOST....

I dont have my gear set up at the time so I cant check. If someone else can confirm this, it's a bug right? And if it's a bug, you'll report this to AKAI right?

I already reported this to Akai. Hopefully, there are more members in the forum that have the CDM25 installed and can check this..

I tested this more. I sampled using the CDM25..and then saved this sample to hard drive. When I reload this sample to reproduce the bug...I can't.

So, I created another sample using the CDM25....making 4 copies of the same sample. Again...jus using the data wheel to edit start/end points...all the copies of the sample disappear....this just totally ruined my mood to creat any music..even though there is a work around for this problem....don't creat copies of digitally recorded samples

At least I am laughing at this problem instead of having a fit of rage like some forum members

Heres a question... see if this works. After you take the sample from the CD, save it to the hard drive first before you try extracting. Maybe that'll work? :?

I sample using the CDM25, save the sample to hard drive, and then reload the sample.....I can't produce the bug.

This issue is not isloated to using the Extract function. I can produce this bug when just trimming the samples start/end points.

Am I the only one that has installed the CDM25 CD/DVD drive on the 2500? I haven't heard anything from Akai or any forums members about this bug I found.

Are you loading wav files, or sampling audio of the cd drive? I noticed that when i load the wav samples off of a sample disc they load fine and i can chop extract, and make copies of the samples no problem. but i did notice that when i use the q-link to trim the samples then i hit edit and discard it doesn't trim the samples with the wheel it trims fine. I haven't sampled any audio off the the drive yet, it is 1:23 in the morning and i worked 13 hours today so i will try tomorrow and ge back later fam.

i have successfully reproduced the extract and trim bug. I sampled not loaded a break beat then made four copies. then i used the wheel to adjust start and end points then extract when u extract u lose all the copies except the original. Also if you use the q-link to trim the start and end points with out using the wheel it won't trim the samples. using the discard under the edit menu. if u use the the wheel to fine tune the samples they will trim.
