EQing on the 1000

Given that there are only 2 effect patches you can use within the MPC at any given time, am I correct that you really can't possibly EQ more than two of the sounds in the beats at once?

Any strategies for EQing all your sounds despite having only two effect patches available?

yeah, eq and resample
eq before/after your work in the mpc
layer drums instead of eqing them

etc

don't sleep on the master eq and also resample like ant said.

I like EQing with the filters. I find it works fairly well. I don't like using the EQ in the effects or master section at all. With the filters you can "EQ" each pad.

its not really eqing though - filtering is much less subtle. last night i had a dream that you could use 10 effects at one....pretty sad arent i!

Yeah I just hate using the filters because it totally cuts out certain frequencies that I'd rather just, you know, tone down... I've never really done much resampling.. I should try that.. I'm so used to preparing my samples outside of the MPC (ie cutting them up in an editor program) that I haven't even learned how to use the MPC's sampling/re-sampling functions.. I should get on that...

I guess the other approach is just to use sounds that don't crowd out each other's frequencies.. That's sort of what I've been doing lately, and then just EQing the master to tone down frequencies that are over-represented.

same here, when i'm in the mpc i'm thinking solely about song construction and orchestration, not mastering or effecting

Its a crushed hummingbird... I know.. weird.. I found it outside my house, flat but perfectly intact.. Totally dried out.. Took a bunch of pictures of it on my equipment.. I don't know why... I'm sort of weird like that... That's artists for you...

The main problem with not being able to EQ individual sounds in the MPC is that it limits your ability to record live muting, etc. Like if I want to record a song that involves dropping out certain parts whenever it feels right, it'd be nice to be able to EQ everything within the 1000 before recording.. Recording individual tracks into software, then EQing the tracks, works, but limits your ability to record live..

Oh well.. I guess I'm just bitching now.. Hah - I was almost expecting to hear "You can do that in OS 2" as a reply.. Kind of glad I didn't..
