Playing bass samples?

I recorded just one second of just straight bass out of my reason program and loaded it up into my mpc. I wanted to play the bass like notes on my midi keyboard in the background while the mpc plays the rest of the song but when i hit the keys the bass does'nt play constantly and consistently from one key to another. It plays the bass sample longer than what i held the key down for. I wanna be able to hit the key and it play that bass as long or short as i want consistently until i hit the next key or lift my hand of the key itself? do i need better bass samples,is their a way to trim down the sustain or envelope like in reason? please help me with this question anyone thank you!!

go to > program > params > set to mono, (i think it's down in the right corner in the params menu)

note off is better imo cuz u can play it like a reg keyboard
