So is the s950 a better sampler than the MPC? Considering its a dedicated piece of equipment for that purpose what makes it a better choice than say any other sampler? just curious

but the mpc isnt a dedicated sampler so i can see the 950 having better features for sampling

I think I asked that on another thread but didn't get an answer. I just wanna know why dudes be having an MPC AND an S series sampler. I can admit that I am ignorant to the reason but i would like for someone to explain this to me. Why two samplers?

Lower bit rate,timestretch,filters,efx.Could be a be any number of reasons.You could use a sampler like the 950 to chop and timestretch and then send to the mpc.(if you don't have these options)

well, i dont use my mpc's sampler much anymore. only sometimes. i usually record samples into adobe audition and chop them up there. but i want something i can run samples thru and add effects to them on the fly. i wonder if the s3000 can do that. i had planned on gettin one of those for the effects...

i guess people buy a seperate sampler for the samplers features. because the mpc wasnt made specifically to sample to they didnt add all the features that a straight up sampler would have

yeah the mpc was designed as a rhythm/drum machine sampler. So it doesnt really have full featured sampling options. Dont get me wrong u can make beats on the mpc no prob, but a rack mount offers things like effects, lfos, 16y parts multitim, more editing features, eqs, filters, etc... stuff that a drum machine really doesnt need.

So lets say I get one of those S series samplers. Could I sample a sound and us a midi keyboard to play the sample as if it were on the keys? I'm not talking like an extended 16 levels type thing where the higher the note the shorter the sample. Is the note length preserved on each key?

Yes.Depending on what sampler.(And of course you need a midi controller.)

Cool, so what is it I have took for? Is there a duration preservation function like in sound forge?

I had an s1000 nah its not even close to a mpc 4000,the filters were not all that to me.the digital eq was like guess work.people buy stuff cause they heard so&so did this or that song with it,the reason they did that song with it cause thats all that was out at that time.even if you sample in 12bit it's not like the listener is gonna be like yo yo that's 12bit man! a lot of mythical thinking going on with recording.give me 24bit/192k anyday over what was hot 20yrs ago.with all the sofware out,you can get just about any sound you want.
