The mpc4000 is the best option cause it combines a rack type sampler with the keygrouping, filters, lfos, etc. with the mpc interface. So its somewhat like having a mpc2000xl and s6000/z4 sampler in one.
The reason id say go for one of those rack samplers like the s950 or s1000 is because they are mega cheap compared to upgrading your current mpc to a mpc4000. The only real hassle would be using midi cables and having to assign the tracks to midi every time........
Alot of people would argue still that they would prefer a rack sampler plus mpc combo because they like the interface on the mpc2xl, mpc60,mpc3000 more than they like the interface on the mpc4000. I somewhat agree because The mpc4000 is the shit and does have an mpc feel, but it is slightly differant than using the old mpc with outboard gear................it has a differant feel to it; not better, but differant.
Id becarefull of those old samplers as far as what is needed to save your sounds, and their condition. Ive seen some pretty raunchy ones. It would suck to have to use a computer to interface exchanging of zip disks and floppy disks;otherwise you might as well just be using the computer. You gotta make sure you are getting more outa the deal than just a big saving hassle.

I have a question. At what point did akai implement keygrouping? s1000? s950? s3000? For some reason i thought the s950 was pretty much the same sampler as the mpc2000??! and it doesnt have keymapping?
