And the suggestion of chopping up what I've played is dumb to me, I'm going for a live sound and natural feel, something that would require tons more work to achieve if I programmed it
not really. that's why you chop it in recycle and save a midi file if it REALLY takes that long to reprogram...which it honestly does not, i do it with all my phrase samples and it costs me a couple minutes that i find well spent... patch phrasing your shit makes you have more control over tempo, too, which you can't do with long samples of phrases.
anyway, the midi file from recycle remains unquantized, and suddenly you have access to every note individually for further editing, effecting, etc. honestly this way is easy and VASTLY expands your control...not to mention the later potential to reorder your notes and basslines (including by repitching them) and creating interesting new and completely natural, live feeling melodies, filter sweeps, filler, etc.
