I have two features I'd like to see on the MPC1000:

1) Sort Files & Folders by Name/Date/Type, etc...

The MPC1000 likes to sort everything by when it was copied to the storage device. Since Windows likes to copy everything backwards from Z-A, I usually end up with my files listed from Z-A. Then, when I go to create new files/folders, these get placed out of order because they're new. It would be really nice to have the ability to sort by Name, Date, Type, etc...
There are workarounds including copying multiple times, but it's a hassle that can be circumvented by a simple feature.

2) Record Quantization

Close your eyes for a sec and imagine having two additional buttons on the Record screen.. TC and Tap. TC would let you set the Record Quantization up to multiple bars (1, 2, 4 bars at least) and Tap would set the tempo with a metronome that gets superimposed over the incoming signal. First you press the tap key repeatedly to sync the metronome with the beat, then you simply press the Record button and the MPC starts recording at the next beat/bar according to the Record Quantization setting, and finally you press the Stop button to stop recording on the next Record Quantization setting. Pretty nice, eh?

nice idea, this is what the red sound cycloops can do already, i forgets it's new name, if they can do it on a cheap loop sampler, they can do it on the mpc! come on Akai!

Wow. I just read the review of that device from Future Music Magazine. That's EXACTLY what I'm talking about. And to think, I didn't even know about this C-Loop device until you told me

edit: it's now called the peavey grabber

So how about it, Akai? I'm not even asking for auto-BPM detection. Just give me a tap function with metronome in the Record screen so I can get those perfect loops without using my PC :D

(1) id like a graphic step-programmode that uses the the sixteen pads like the
stepmode of the old rolands like tr808.
it's incredible fast and intuitive to work with those oldies.
and in that mode, the qlinks could serve as velocity regulators (hold the pad and set velocity or any midivalue with the slider)
anyone who has worked with a tr808 knows what im after.

(2) realtime loop pointedit would also be a nice feature so i can alter the loop
points by just moving the Qlink while the MPC is playing the sample

(3)
a barcountmode in trackmute so the machine turn on the muted track on or off in the beginning or the end of the next bar

it's good that you're not even asking for that because the new OS already has that.

not on the live input tho, am i right? i thought it could only detect the tempo from a pre recorded sample? what he wants is something which detects the tempo of the incoming audio, and you specify how many bars you want and then hit record at the start of a bar, and it will automatically stop when it's recorded the specified bars. i know you can do this with tap tempo, and then work out how long the sample needs to be, but it would save time if things were the other way!

you would just find the orginal tempo of the song and then you wouldnt need thease stupid extra features.I my self can easyly tell in any song when a bar starts and what the tsignature is and then from there theres an easy little formual to figure out tempo.first you figure out how many beats are in one bard .If you are going at 60 BPM, that means that each quarter note is exactly one second long - 120 BPM, and each quarter note is half a second long, etc. To use the method , you'll be calculating the BPM based on an interval of time over a certain number of beats. For example, suppose that a measure(bar) takes exactly four seconds. That means that there have been four quarter notes in four seconds, or in other words, a quarter note takes one second. Then, you divide 60 seconds (a minute) by one second .in other words

here is the quation for figuring out the dom of a loop in 4/4 measure.

60/loops lenngth in seconds x (number of bars x number of beats per bar =bpm

figuring out what the bpm is for a 6.86 second loop thats four bars long

(1) 60/6.86) x (4x4)= bpm

(2) 8.75x16=bpm

the answer is 140 bpm

this might also come in handy http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/34550
just download it off a kaza or some shit like that . it used to be free

its a loop calculator
