Marley Marl was probably the first to chop samples, long before Primo and probably before Jazzy Jeff as well. I used to love those records when I was a kid, like I THINK I CAN BEAT MIKE TYSON and stuff. My best friend at the time, this korean cat, his favorite group was dj jazzy jeff and the fresh prince, and then he turned Christian and threw all his rap tapes away saying it was "secular music" and I was like man, you shoulda gave them to me... meanwhile I went home and was like how the hell was that secular? There's not much offensive material on a DJ Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince record, then he explained what secular meant and I understood even less...

i dont recall any songs by marley being chopped, as i recall they were loop'd samples, jazzy's trak that i'm talkin bout isclearly chopped andyou can hear it .

It was the first double album I ever owned....ha ha ha

Yeah Jazzy Jeff was the man. I remember when i first started dj'ing around 88 or so i was scheming hard on the Jazzy Jeff Gemini Mixer. It had the transformer buttons on it!!!

spread the knowledge spread the knowledge ,
or these kids will never know what real hiphop is and is about, thats why i post these especially for the crate digger so they dont pass it up when they see it while diggin, i remeber when this album came out , i dont have but i have listen to it many times and its great . i have they first album tho . but i will get this album soon.it's just not at the top of my list you know what i'm saying.

Yeah, it was one of my first too, I had it on casette... lol remember those? I think the colors soundtrack was the first tape I owned, but "I'm the rapper, he's the DJ" was my second I think. Jazzy Jeff is the man, I used to get more excited for the beats and scratches on their albums than for Fresh Prince's lyrics.

yeah i feel you i was the same way , but not just for this album all hiphop music, i kinda still am like that , i love the beats and the dj scratch. to me thats what makes the song.

i ran into this double lp used in Long Beach a few weeks ago... i didnt get it at the time cuz it was a lil scratched and they were kinda taxin... cant remember the price on it, but this thread is makin me wanna go back and check it out again... its been YEARS since i heard that schit...

I picked it up a while back but missng the second record... I used to listen to that casette tape when i was in 5th or 6th grade.

Jazzy Jeff is very clean, very, very, clean, like a new paire of kicks.
