AKAI MFC42 ANALOG FILTER

Please drop a few lines on if you have ever used or currently using Akai MFC42 Analog Filter and how does it work as far as sampling. What major difference do you get when using the MFC42 Analog Filter? I'm thinking about purchasing one and I wanted to get some hands on info from other producers who have used or is using one currently. So please feel free to drop me a few lines. Thanks

I used it for "live" filtering sounds. With the 8 outputs I routed channel 1 and 2
to the filter. I traded my filter and the 8 outs for a ms2000 synth. But I am thinking of buying another mfc.. they are very cheap now..

not for nothing, But I have one, and I still haven't got to really use it and see it for what its worth....i know its an analog filter, btu I haven't felt its power to know how useful it is...i definitely have the 8 outs in the back of my mpc, but i don't have the snake cables to hook all that up.,.,i still wanna use it tho and find out more abt it,.,at least b able to incorporate into my beats

I used it alot to make wobble basslines for drum and bass.. if you set the lfo to the cutoff synced to the midiclock you can make amazing bassliness

It is good for wobbling basslines. Syncing the LFO to the cutoff is my favorite part of the unit. You can do some killer panning effects with hi-hats this way too using the L-R phase.

I would pay now 150 euro's for a good lookin' one.

I know this is an old topic, but i'm curious in getting one! This might sound dumb but, can you take your drums and samples and "dumb" 'em down to 12 bit???? It would be cheaper and in my case realistic rather buying a SP-1200......Thanks. JoBu

it wont do this job for you as is it a filter unit. no dithering and so on...

on the mfc the filters are nice :

you got low pass, high pass, notch , band pass.

there is a small Eq, but most often useless.
there is also a distortion effect, and a phase shifter wich make the sounds swirling... can be nice to awfull lol.

the LFO/envellope can be used as groove modulator, and can be easily synced to a beat.

most of the midi stuff inside works.
a great filter. anotther sweet filter would be the sherman filterbank.

I love mine, warms up the sound nice..

the distortion is ILL for filtering basslines out of samples..

spent like 250 for mine... I dont regret it at all

have not tried to sync it to the mpc... gotta try that
