Can anyone give me any suggestions towards trading in my 1000. I want to go to a store or something similar and be able to get a 2000xl by trading in my new 1000.

I haven't tracked them recently but..used 2000XL cost more than used 1000s. The forum members that believe you are making a mistake may know someone that may be willing to trade you for it.

the 2000xl has a brick wall limiter. it also has nice size pads. those are the only reasons...but mostly for the brick wall limiter.

on a small side note...im also sick of waiting around for the new OS since ive pretty much squeezed out all the potential that the 1k has right now. so all of those reasons combined are why i'd want to trade. You gotta love the usb feature though....also...i hate zips. But the limiter is mostly the reason of why i want the xl.....i guess this "small" side note turned out to be longer than the main post. :D

And i dont care how new or old the technology is...its all about the sound...and i think the old stuff sounds way better...what does it matter how new the technology is when im still just sampling records from the 70's into 16bit 44.1k. The new technology aspect is only for the consumers... A good sound is for the professionals...(i dont know any producers that use a 1000) and a brick wall limiter will give you a great bumpin sound without the processing that normalizing does.

when I got the mpc1000, it didn't feel magical to me. I am looking for a cheap mpd16 as we speak.

I must say, I've never heard of a brick wall limiter being used to creatively process drums, they're pretty much exclusively used as a mastering effect just to stop signal peaks from destroying your speakers or to maximise loudness without distortion, and besides, set your 1000's compressor right, and you'll effectively have a brick wall limiter. I can't imagine how you'd use an effect that basically doesn't affect any signal it doesn't wipe out completely to get a "great bumping sound"

I'm not trying to persuade you not to sell your 1000, it's up to you. But really, don't fall into the dumb trap that perpetuates the myth that "you have to have a 2000xl". The reason you don't know any producers that use a 1000 is because 1:the 1000 is only 2 years old, not really time for it to get a foothold and 2:the said dumb myth being perpetuated, mainly by people who don't necessarily know what they're talking about.

Also, the new technology means that what you sample is more likely to sound closer to how it originally did than it would when sampled through the 2000xl. Though I doubt there's a great deal of perceptible difference, I would defy someone to do a blind test on the same sample source with the same settings between a 1000 and 2000xl and be able to hear any difference between the two.

the brick wall limiter isnt an effect...its connected to the inputs and its a signal processor that will automatically work without you having to turn a compressor into a limiter. in other words, its not a software feature. its a hardware feature. I also know for a fact that it does sound better because i have a friend with a 2000xl. We did compare the sample quality of the inputs to see if the limiter really did do anything and the 2000xl was able to squeeze out more dBu than the 1k by just sampling alone. Even after normalizing the sample on the 1k, the xl sounded more strong and loud with just the unprocessed bare sample. And im not just talking about drum samples...im talking about any kind of sample...especially bass.
