Dig it. I just asked 'cause I was suprised at the price. Besides, our conversation was still based on the concept of this thread, as we were talking about the introductions of the older gear and problems associated with that.

Oh, and Jahrome, I still have my reciept. The place was Veneman's music, who I think got swallowed up by either Musician's Friend or American Musical. For kicks I could scan it (if this scanner even works, haha). My boy also got his for about that price from Sam Ash in KOP.

The thing about Antonyms suggestion, or any suggestion like that is what if you DON'T have CF, much less most GCs not letting you do that in their store? Probably the most sensible alternative IS to just save them properly. And if you can, keep the older machine around for a minute unless you have the time to prep all the songs now. And of course you could sort through and dump some of the best songs, especially if they're done. By that, at least that stage is out of the way for later.
Peace

Jahrome, he's right about the price that's the same price ($1250) I paid for mine when the MPC2000 first came out.
Got it from Caruso Music and it was sold to me by Karl Jennings.
This was when they first arrived and they even opened it to take a look at the manual since it was a brand new product.
Then had to wait for the effects card to be released.

You guys only think that you got the MPC 2000 when it first came out. Now, just like the 2500 today where it was going for $1999 at most places and dealers like Alto Music were moving them for 1599......but the MPC 2000 was over $2000 when it dropped..and the FX board and 8 outs were in stock with Muscians Friends. They were selling them standard, studio, and studio plus. I can't argue what any of you guys paid for yours...but they were in fact going for over $2000 and I bought one of the first ones to hit the streets..as I have done with the XL, 4000, and most recently the 2500. If I don't know anything else..I do know a lil something about MPCs....

Tutor please forgive me.

Jahrome you are a **** idiot.
You know everything and yet know nothing.
Every single time you post, reply or just put more of your ignorance out there just further verifies this.
It seems that to you the only way something can exist is the way you know it to be or think that it is, yet the biggest thing that proves you wrong generally will be your own statements.

I know how much trouble it was to find, let alone buy a 2000 when they dropped.
Yet you with more of your ignorance try to tell me I only think I got one of the first ones.
Damn how **** stupid can you get??????
As far as your statement about, if you do know something you know MPC, well considering how uninformed you tend to be about MPC that doesn't speak well does?

If you really knew you would know when the 2000 first dropped the options were unavailable.
You would also know that there were actaully 2 variations of the EB16 card, the one prior to the MPC2000 and the one that they started shipping after the MPC2000's release.
But again you know every **** thing so I guess I'm wrong even tho I was around and experienced all of this.

Reply if you like but I won't waste my time reading it because as everyone already knows you never admit when you are wrong.

F the b.s. I did the smart thang--I had a helluva time converting so I RE-COPPED A 2000 W/ THE 8 OUT S FOR $450.00 AND NOW I'M GONNA TRACK MY SONGS AND BE HAPPY. Then I will sell the 2000 and 8 out separately on ebay and make a profit--hit me if you'd like to make an offer for the 8 outs or MPC 2000 and I'll post it on ebay and you can buy it now for the agreed price.

Dear ntalec,

$1250 for a new MPC 2000 in 1997   Someone is smoking some serious crack. New MPC 3000s was being sold for $3000 plus during this time but were getting difficult to find a place that had them in stock. Then Akai drops a $1250 MPC 2000 that is faster and more powerful than their flagship   Who sounds like the idiot??

I wasn't there when any of you bought your MPCs (except for the few that bought them from me  )...so I am not debating what people paid for their MPC. I can only state that Musicians Friends/Guitar Center were selling this models for over $2000 in 1997 and I bought one. In fact, it was next to impossible finding any serious sampler or workstation going for $1250 at that time. I couldn't get a new MPC 2000/2000XL for that price in Japan until 2001...where they are awlays sold several hundred dollars cheaper than in the US.

Please lay off the crack...the MPC 2000 was no where near $1250 in 1997

I started selling used MPCs on eBay in 1999...I would have never made any money if NEW MPC 2000/2000XLs were $1250 in the US

I patiently wait for your apology but I will not hold my breath
:P

PS-The options for were available when the MPC 2000 was released. If it wasn't, I guess I had a proto-type.

Wasn't going to reply but since you are being true to form;
here's a pic from Keyboard mag October 1997 notice the list price on the MPC2000............$1499 for the base unit.

OCT97

Here a a January 1, 1997 price list showing the base MPC2000 for....$1499.00

1997 Price List

When the MPC2000 was released you had to purchase the Studio or Studio Plus to get the options, the options WERE not available at the time of release.
Also they were not classified as user installable so it would void the warranty to open the unit.

Here's a picture from the MPC2000 broshure from 1997 stating that the EB16, IB-M20T and the FMX008M were not supported in the v1.0 version of the software and would be added later.
Look under options.
So if you had one of the first units the O.S. couldn't even use the options, but you had a first unit that did???

Broshure

The MPC2000 was never more powerful than the 3000 and Akai never tried to fool or insult peoples intelligence (unlike what you constantly do).

In 1997 places like Musicians Friend, Guitar Center and even Sam Ash were not the big sellers they are now so I can't attest to what they may or may not have sold MPC's for but rest assure,in 1997 I purchased a MPC2000 from Caruso Music for $1250, this is not a claim it is fact.
In 97 the were still many smaller and non franchise music stores doing real business.

As far as prices in Japan I wasn't in Japan so I don't really care, but for you to speak on something that you clearly don't know is just being a ......Jahrome.

Just seems so amazing that you could try to tell someone else what they did or did not do in a situation that you have no knowledge of.

As for aliengroover's claim to have gotten a good deal from Veneman's, I can beleive that.
I know the Veneman's on Viers Mill always has competitive pricing.

Bur we all know you will never admit that you are wrong about the price of the MPC2000 base unit price in 1997.
If you were talking about the price of a MPC2000 Studio Plus then you would be more accurate.

Just let me know if you would also like some DNA testing to prove my point.

By aliengroover Sat Jan 07, 2006 8:14 pm
Thank you, Ntalec! Add to that the fact that the street price is almost ALWAYS less than the list price.

Also, as far as releasing similarly spec'd items for much less...Emu released the ESI32 a year or two after their latest Emulator and at less than half the price. Emulator owners were PISSED, but soon realized that they still had a great machine, too, that was worth the price.

BTW, I purchased my MPC2K in March of '97. And when did it come out again? Guess I didn't get an early one 'cause I didn't buy it the day it shipped. Man, this crack is good!
Peace

I don't know....when the 2000 hit...I bought one immediately. It was the first MPC that was affordable At $2300 with no options and only 2MB of memory. But just 2 years later..when the XL dropped, I quickly replaced the 2000. Almost everybody I know that had a 2000 replaced it for an XL..for the adjustable screen alone. The 2000 got me the most eBay sells for sure being that they were/are dirt cheap.

Now to be perfectly honest...you may be correct that I didn't buy the base model. But I did call/purchase it from Musician's Friends for $2300, and they did have them advertised for the price I paid. They were going for much more than $1250. At that time, you couldn't just go to any music store in the US and pick up an MPC like you can today. I picked it shipped to be the day it became available which was in early 1997.

As far as the options, they were available upon the release of the 2000. I can't say they were available to be sold seperately in the US though.

Just the facts?

I didn't pay $2300 for my MPC 2000?

I didn't have any options installed in the 2000 because OS 1.0 didn't support any options?

By ntalec Sat Jan 07, 2006 9:57 pm
Now this is really interesting.
When aliengroover and I said we paid $1250 it was a lie and we were smoking crack.
Now I have offered some supporting evidence and you think we should just believe you????
Yeah right.
OK show us some proof??
Didn't think so.
As in about 85% of your post you were wrong about something yet won't admit it.
If you like I can scan the results from the carbon dating they did on my 2000 before I sold it to prove how old it really was.

Doesn't even matter that you now are trying to shift this to us calling you a lie, you said we were lying and couldn't gotten them for that price and as always you were WRONG.

At any rate I have supported my original statements about the original cost of the MPC2000 in 1997 as well as the original MPC2000 (v1.0) could not use the options, and you are still just spitting the same old I did, I use to, I had bullsh*t with nothing to support it.
Grow up and move on.
And just for the record the other people on the forum know when you are wrong but just choose to blow it off so take that into consideration when you put yourself out there like that trying to call someone wrong.
Especially someone with time in the game and lots of resources.

so I leave you with PEACE, LOVE and a SOUL TRAIN in hopes that you will hop on and take a ride to your next great post.
You are only doing what you always do make more statements to prove yourself wrong.

As the qoute belows shows the support for my statements about the original MPC2000 v1.0 units, like the one I purchased in 1997 from where, that's right Caruso Music.
