whos had them all,60.60II,3k,2k, 2kxl

or at least a few to give a complete and honest review of the 1k. I'm curious to know how it stacks up vs the others according to someone who has actually had experience with most of the MPCs. I don't want a review from a kid who got a 1000 as his first piece of gear.

im in the market to get a new mpc to replace my old 2k but want to hear about this 1k from someone who has used the 2k.

i had the regular 2000, i think the 1000 is better for me because it gives me more options. Instead of buying the EB16 for the 2000, i would just buy the 1000. I was gettin sick of that little screen on the 2000 also, If you compare them, theres a big difference. I think the sound is a lil better too on the 1000.

I had the 200 for almost 6 years or so. I maxed mine out as well, after all was said and done I spent over 2,000. I had a zip drive, eb16, RAM (back then cost me almost $200 for 32 meg, post earth quake), 8 outs, Hard Drive, CDROM, the works. I still had to load my OS with a floppy, and still had bugs.

Now I have the same interface I have come to love, more efx!,128!, USB!! and a lighter, brighter box (screen) for 1/2 the ching.

I has nervous at first but after playing with it at the store knew that it was worth selling my MPC2k. I was one of the guys that said there was no point to switch to a 2kxl, but now that this 1k came out I made the jump and love it.

Can you tell if it sounds different? no, not really. Its still an MPC. Its just a bit nicer to use. If I had a 2000XL with all the new extras, I still would have made the switch.

what up bro im in a tight situation. i have one of the very 1st original pre released 2k and after many many good years my screen is almost completly white and instead of throwing 300$+ for a new screen, i think its time to upgrade. i was like you and skipped the xl cuz i didnt need it. however with more projects in the works i need to get something to rpl my 2k. this 1k looks very tempting but i cant find any real reviews of people how has owned the 2k or xl that has the 1k. a few things im not too sure about is
1- can you load the 2k programs (all on floppies)/sequences/sounds into the 1k EASILY and will it play them back with no hicups etc?
2- will this machine use standard* pc ram?
3- i notice it has only 4 outs, can this be expanded?
4- is the sound dirty like the 2k? visit www.earbubbles.com to hear what i mean-
5- it looks small...very small does the small box offers the durability the 2k offered and i assume all the feauters the original 2k has are included in the 1k box tru?
6- how is the usb support? glitchy or on point?
7- are the flash cards akai specific or any brand will do?

I didnt try this, I wanted to start new/fresh. I took all my old samples from the floppys and zips, moved them to my PC and USB them to the MPC1k. I have heard that the pgm files will not load exactly as before.
If this one is a big deal for you. Think about a 2kXL.

from what I can tell...no, it maybe an akai thing, not a big deal though.
it will only be $100.

no- but at the same time I never really used all my outs from the 2k

I cant get this on my current PC but will try to listen later. As for dirty... I never really thought the 2k was dirty. I think that the 1k sounds just as good as the 2k did. Its all on your ears. the standard samples do come with efex on them but that can be taken off.

Yes- its solid, Yes- most features are the same.

some cats did have issues, the only issue I had was with my XP box. It was always wanting to format the flash card. I took it to my 98 box and had no issues what so ever.

No- any brand will do, it just needs to be type 2.

I think you will like it though. go to GC and compare the two boxes to another.

the reason i ask is because one of the producers on my team has the 2k and we often exchange program/songs/sounds/seq, what im worried about is that when he sends me these files how can i upload them into the 1k to play them back and track them. (have the yamaha aw4416 -IT ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
is it possible to connect a symmod to the 1k and midi control it?
