Folks,


Let me first clarify that I know how to timestretch. Pretty straight forward function. I use an MPC 2500 so its so easy. What I am trying to figure it is, based on all the videos floating around this forum... in particular the pete rock documentary.... on the SP 1200 he takes a sample and extends the tailend of it. How do you do that on an MPC. Basically the sample plays.. and than the tail end of, let's say, the riff keeps playing and playing making for a cleaner sounding loop. Any suggestions?

*yes I did do a search first. This is a very specific question and I found nothing about it.

could you not just chop of the end , timestretch the end , then insert the begining before the end to create the one sample but with the timestretched end?

yep, tha'l do it.

full sample on one pad and tail end on another and retrigger the tail end when you need it

or

make the tail end a loop.

patch phrase your sample without repitching it
play the last note a couple times after your loop is over with some attack/decay on it. this will act as a reverb of your last sample

After doing some research, I think the function I am looking for is the "Crossfade Looping". The s950 has it described as follows:

CROSSFADE LOOPING allows you to fade out the glitches that may be present In
a loop. Basically, when you employ crossfade looping, the sound plays to the
end of the sample and then, instead of the sample jumping back to the start
of the loop, the sound begins to fade away as the start of the loop fades in.
At the end of the loop, the loop again fades away whilst the start fades in
(see Fig. 4) - In this way, the nasty clicks end thumps caused by abrupt
amplitude changes at the loop points are faded out enabling a much smoother
loop to be created. This mode is certainly the best for attaining a perfect
loop end even difficult sounds such as thick strings, brass end vocals,
amongst others, can easily be looped and you won't spot the join!

You can achieve that with attack/decay.
