hi,
basically i just wana send my beats through midi into one of my sequencers(acid 4,cool edit pro 2.1,sonar.) i have a mpc 2000 classic with a motu fastlane usb interface.
i have the midi out (a) from the mpc going to the midi in(a) on the fastlane and midi in (1) from the mpc going to the midi out (a) on the fastlane.
i just want to make my beats on my mpc and send them to one of my programs on my pc!!

if any one could help me through this it would be very appreciated,me and my mate have spent 2 days trying to figure it out!!! my mpc even freaked out and made this dirty noise when i tried recording onto acid. and the screen went all mad on the mpc aswell.

my heads hurting after reading up so much on midi and midi time code and midi clock and frame rate and so on......

if any 1 could help me get this going it would make my day.thanks

if you would have read carefully as you said you did you would've known that midi isnt audio...

but, you didnt read carefully...so now you get flamed.

pity

why not open up the midi files from the mpc's disk, into your favourite seq.

mpc main outs, where are they routed to?

is that a volume bar or midi in signal bar?

i actually use the motu fastlane, too!

im currently using cubase se. what it sounds like you want to do is record your beats into an audio editing program. well, you wont be recording the actual midi into the program. it will be audio that your recording. the midi is what the software will use to "talk" to the mpc or vice versa.

Are you actually trying to track your music out (each individual track) or just record a beat as a whole?

if you want to just record the beat down without tracking, that should be easy. just have your mpc main outs going into your computers input. or if you have a mixer, send your mpc main outs into your mixers input, then your mixers output into your computer's input. however you do it....open your software and press record. press play on the mpc and it should record what plays.

but if you want to track out the beat into something like cubase, you can do that with the fastlane. you have to set the software up so that it's receiving the midi messages. go into options or settings in cubase and setup your midi options so that it's receiving from the Fastlane Port A. you also have to go into MIDI settings on the mpc and set it up to send/receive midi clock, mici time code, or smpte. i think i use midi clock (the first choice). select which input to use (in your case i think it should be 1, but i use 2).

so basically you have to set both the software and the mpc up to send/receive the midi messages. once its setup right, you should be able to press play or record in cubase and the mpc should start playing. that way everything will be lined up.

am i making any sense? may sound confusing, but its really easy

still no luck peeps,
done exactly what the previous post said but i used acid 5 instead cause i wasnt havin much luck with cubas.

i managed to get the mpc's sounds playing on the piano roll editor in acid and at some point i managed to get the mpc's pads playing the piano in acid.

all im trying to do is put a sequence into acid.

ive got the mpc's midi input (1) going into the fastlanes in (A) output. and the mpc's midi out (A) going into the fastlanes input(A).

so i think there is nothing wrong with the setup?

i noticed that there was 2 midi holes left in the mpc after i connected 2 midi leads.one for the in and one for the out.
is this right? or do you need 2 sets of leads?
but i think that they r for connecting keyboards etc to.(dont know if im right?)

if any 1 can help us out that would be much appreciated,

also smooth if your reading this(or n e body that knows) how would i get my mpc.s mains out to my computers input?

safe,

CHECK THE LYRICS)
start with that bush ****
i’ll strangle and choke him, shoot him and smoke him
the only reason he’s in power cos he cheated blatant in the voting
the whole thing was scandalous cos that bush **** got away with it
and the rest of the world are gonna pay for it
causing more deaths and destruction, unrest and the poor more hunger
him and his puppet blair don’t care to bumber, the little war mongers
supporting triple six numbers in their equations
spreading propaganda through the nation
bush and blair are really lucifer and satan
**** the members of parliament, pentagon and white houses
prime ministers, presidents dealing with allegations
that have no evidence
they see with their ism skism vision claiming to wipe out terrorism
they’re really terrified of muslims - trying to wipe out their religion
how come bin laden’s not dead or in prison, i don’t understand
two of the world’s most powerful allies can’t even catch one man
now they’re making the same excuses to go and attack saddam
looking to drop bombs on iraq, like they did in afghanistan
but can you tell me what war really achieves
apart from innocent deaths, soldiers dying in army fatigues
as young as sixteen
leaving people maimed and disabled
while these two wingless demonic angels
pull strings and cables while they drink & sit round tables!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your correct about the midi ports B, their for a second midi device to be connected. so you could be running two midi devices.

Just to clarify, you have worked out now that midi ins and out do not carry any sound at all. they just send instructions and recieve instructions back and forth but no audio.

No your trying to record audio correct, well you need some sort of interface to connect to your computer, i use a pro tools rack but you could use one of many interfaces.

Make sure that it has got 1/4" jack inputs and outputs and if midi in and out also to enable you to be able to use software synths and be able to control the transport bar.

Also another note about the interface, ideally you want to get one that has got a firewire connection because if you want to record the sound of multiple devices at the same time you need to send a lot of info down the wire.

Hope this helps.

ps check this one out

http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/F ... -main.html

seems like a good one, includes firewire connection etc

or just search for something similar

well if you want to use both mpc main outputs and send them into your one computer input, i think radioshack or something will have an adapter for that. it should allow you to connect two 1/4" cables and it converts to a 1/8" plug that you can plug into your computer.

OR

if you dont want to use both mpc main outs, you can use a 1/4" to 1/8" cable from your mpc main out into your computer input.

thanx 4 all the help peeps, much appreciated.

i managed to put my mpc's outs to my computers input using a 3.5 stereo to a (2) 1/4in.
but when i record into acid it only records in on the left channel?

i managed to convert it 2 play out of both speakers in the end tho.

but im left with my fastlane usb interface not being used! as i have no keyboard yet.
in what ways could i use midi with my mpc 2000 and acid pro 5?
cheers,

You'd record w/ acid the same way you record with sonar, cubase.. all of the programs record..
