MPC1000 Hard Drive Recommendations

put in a 20gb travelstar ibm hardrive ripped out of an dell laptop - couldnt give you an exact model number though im afraid. no noise except when starting up and loading things, same kind of noise you get from an ipod i spose, pretty quiet, and has no effect on making music. works fine so far!

also, is anyone having files called 'system volume in', and 'recycled' appearing in their hard drives. and how do you make the hard drive act as the default drive i.e. the drive in which autoload loads from...? sorry if these questions have been answered i couldnt find any answers. ta!

^^^ 'system volume in', and 'recycled' are files from your windows os when it was in the dell. you need to format your drive in the mpc and all those files will be deleted.

got a toshiba 60 gig i think the same one that was tested by akai...works like a charm cant wait till os 2 so i can fully use this baby!

you said you took this out of a laptop that you had/have? if so, what i would do is format it on the laptop first. once that is done, you know (for the computer) it is clean, then bring it back to the mpc and format it on there.

those dell pcs are a bit funny actually. i think you'll need to do something like use fdisk or some other hard drive formatting program. i think it may have to be a dos program, but you might have luck from within windows. you could try hooking it up to another pc too, with one of those hard drive enclosures that sparq has been telling people about.

cheers sparq! also multiple partitions (if you have any) may cause problems, but you can remove these with the Fdisk utility.

Well i got the adapter kit a few days after I ordered it, however I have been having such a difficult time dealing with ewiz.com. They shipped me the wrong hard drive and then took forever to have UPS pick it up and now they are taking even longer to ship the right one. I ordered it on Dec 15th and still have not got the hard drive. Their customer service is non exsistant. So basically just a warning don't buy from ewiz.com!

Shipping took 10 days for 3 day select UPS. Ordered 7800 GTX 256m, was sent 7800 GT, opps we posted it wrong on pricewatch our mistake we will send UPS to pick up package.. never heard from them again.Emailed them 3 time no response.Got maoney back from Bank..HAHA now I am sticking it to ya..and PLEASE give me someone that does not sound like "Apu" from the simpsons' Quicky-Mart.Never Order again!

has anyone tried installing one of the newer solid-state (flash ram) hard drives in a 1k? i'm thinking that i'm about to get one, and i'd like to put a ram drive in it when i do. right now they're only up to like, 16gb, but i really don't think that that's going to be a big deal for what i'm planning on doing with it. and man, they're fast, they're light, no moving parts...i do love solid state shit!

i was thinking about doing this. not sure about the ram drive tho, cos you'd have to worry about its backup battery all the time. unless it had built in flash memory too, which the ram part of it dumped to when you turned it off.
