Inflation On Records All Over

I've been noticing an increase on records all over...It seems like dealers are cashing out looking at ebay for references.....last time I went diggin..my man was chargin a few dollars more than what he would use to

Any body else experiencing this?

I've been noticing this quite a while. Every dealer large or small is charging high prices for vinyl. It's a lot harder to luck up and find something for cheap nowadays. Even the crap vinyl is going for prices that just aren't worth it.

I've been experiencing this too. They charge so much for a record that you could find at a thrift store. (i.e. Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass).

Thankfully it hasn't hit around here yet.I'm still payin' a few dollars on every dig but always come back with some gems.

yeah it's been that way for sometime now,ever since ebay started,

thats way i hate to say it but hit them thirfts store make these somebeyeitches eat there sh!t. the only time i hit a store is if i need something i now i cant find in the thirfts but you'll be amazed,

raputins i went there the other day for the first time in years and damn i cant believe the sh!t they had , it's all krap 25 cents i know but nothing thats great or even like stuff you find in the thirft's.

keep the record store to a min at times let these other cats pay the high dollars , buy only rare rare stuff from them till they drop the price or give a good deal

There are a few stores around here but i never go to them because they charge way too much.I go to 2 places to dig and occassionally i go to thrift stores and stuff just to look but i never really find much there anyway.

I haven't been digging for a very looong time. All the resources in my city are dried up. I don't travel either, so I just stick to the records I have. I'm bored as hell with the vinyl I have though. Kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place. I'm not keen at all on on-line digging either. This is why I'm trying to move more into synths.

well all that matters is if you have inspirational vinyl around you....and hearing some of the vinyl you let me hear I know you do.....

less business happenign in vinyl sales, so people have to raise the prices to stay afloat. they don;t offer to pay as much as they used too for good records because they don;t fly off the shelves like they used too. Mp3 digging taking it's toll.

I don't know what to say without coming off like a dyckhead.

Maybe it all ties into my destiny, whatever that might be.

You cant knock internet digging if you know what your after. Ive been picking up 7" for 50p/$1, Tamla Motown and all sorts. Also helps if you got decent radio stations to hear stuff so you know what your looking for but when your away from big cities like me its your only option. Basically id be screwed without the web for material.
Vinyl can be expensive but its so damn addictive

It's been like that for years here in Philly. The shops all charge a nice amount for "average" records (usually $5@ and up). Once I learned to hit the thrift shops early and often, I haven't had any problems with price ($2 or less per record).

The rare stuff is harder to come by in the thrift shops, but I have found a lot of gems digging in the thrifts. The only probelm is sorting through the disorganized pile of vinyl that (at some shops) could mean digging through 2,000-3,000 records.

tell me something new...

the cheapest records I get at the store are about 7-9 euros which is about 10 bucks. Its sad to say but I must admitt : ebay is even CHEAPER than stores are to me mostly, atleast when it comes to the reg to medium rare stuff.

yeah toons i hear you complaining all the time about this man , prices are up here too, you just got to shop around that to me is part of diggin as well is lookin for the best price for an original.

but i just got hiph to ediggin and i have found some really dope shizz i would have never found in a store at least not an original, yeah i got to admit theres some good prices, espcailly if you goto one of those sellers that has the bid and buynow option you wait till the last min and most of the time you get it cheaper then the buy now price, i have scored that way a few times now they wanted 40 bucks buy now price and i waited and got it for 15 bucks with shippin. go figure

eBay has a lot to answer for here.

At one end of the spectrum you have professional dealers who might have, for example, 8 copies of an album they can sell for $80 each. Now, if someone else is selling that same album on eBay for close to that price that dealer will bid for it, even if it means pushing the price up to over $100. It doesn't actually matter if they win that 9th copy or not, it still means they can now be asking more for the copies they are selling "because it recently sold on eBay for over $100"...

Now at the total opposite end of the spectrum you get the information filtering through that "hey ..... did you know that kids these days will spend lots of money on old records?" So you get people selling boxes of worthless records that previously they would have just dumped in some thrift shop, in the same way they'll now try & sell some old ashtray or lampshade instead of dumping those with the records. So the thrift stores are getting less donations & will need to put prices up to make up for that.
