Personally, spinning records is too fun to give up, but I don't spin professionally much. Just an ocassional cookout or house party. For those doing gigs every weekend, I can understand going digital for the convenience. I just can't see the fun in it.
bezo, samlers have been a part of hiphop since it's preteen yrs,i feel what you sayin about using the turns as a instrument,i'm for that all the way, i love to see cats doin that , these last ten years that has really taken off ,ukno?. we have the skratchpiklz to thank for that , but i think your talkin about two different things as i recall when they did live partys they rock'd two turntables and in the studio they had the dj lay the scratches down, so when it came out on vinyl you heard the dj open the first verse with the scratch, samplers back then where not reachable by all, only few, and now adays everyone and ther grandma has a sampler.
using a sampler to make beats, i dont see nothing wrong with thatespecially if you a dj.
run-dmc and JMJ(rip) were a prefect example of this technique. they sampled a beat and jay would rock the scratch over it, thats what it's about , cats like flash back in the days didnt really have this technology, because they were the first to bustout hiphop in it's rawest form they open the doors to let run-dmc oprn the doors to new avenues.
for a time there the dj was forgotten in the music , which to me was when i felt hiphop had taken a downfall, because it had lost one of it elements.
i think that was due to hammer and easy e hammer with the chick in his video's and popularizin hiphop in commercials. and easy e because of gansta rap and cars which brings use to where music is today, but the dj started to make comeback in the underground,
to me if your not representing the four elements then you aint doin nothing to help hiphop, i've lived three elements writinggraf, bboyin, and djin , i cant rap i prolly never will but if i can make music to bring that element in then i think i can say i lived all 4.
