Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hey fam, Im about to do some upgrading. Im gonna get the eight outs, Abbleton live and some kind of interface to my comp. I'm wondering, so that i dont have to spend tons of money on a multi input interface, if the digital outs seperates back into the eight channels on the computer. If that doenst make much sense, forgive me. Im just trying to figure out the cheapest way possible and still be able to edit/mix the eight tracks individually in a pro tools or abbleton enviorment...Naw mean?

sorry im a retard with the computer stuff. im wondering whether inputing into a computer with the digital outs will seperate my tracks into 8 tracks according to the mpc onto a program like Abbelton or Prot tools. that probably makes no sense either.

If you're interface has 8 ins' you can use the 8 outs more effectively beacuse you can track 8 at a time. But let's say for instance your interface has 8 ins' but 4 outs to the computer. You will only be able to track 4 at a time which isn't that bad but it will take more passes to track the full beat.

Look into Delta/M-audio/Echo(cheaper)FirePod(more expensive)

I think what you are talking about is ADAT digital outs which, while being only one cable is actually 8 separate digital channels.
The Digital i/o on the 8 out card is S/PDIF and therfore only stereo in and stereo out.
So there won't be any separation in your computer, any more that using the analog stereo outs that are stock with any MPC.

To use the 8 outs you will need an 8 input interface of some sort. I am a big believer in RME product and I have a Multiface which has never failed on me in 4 years of heavy use. They just put out a v2 so keep an eye out for those people dumping v1's to upgrade. I am sure others can reccomend some 8 input cards.

There are some dicussions in this forum about how people use the 8 outs and whether they are really necessary that might be helpful before you lay out the mucho cash.

Good luck

Akai should build an ADAT output board for the 2000XL. That would be mad.
Most soundcards have ADAT in. This could bypass the need for the DA back to AD conversions.

"I think what you are talking about is ADAT digital outs which, while being only one cable is actually 8 separate digital channels."
There is no ADAT on or for the 2k/2kxl.

"Im just trying to figure out the cheapest way possible and still be able to edit/mix the eight tracks individually"
You won't be going the RME route then.

I guess you will then

Lampdog... dude... was any of that editorializing really necessary? :P

I know RME ain't the cheapest shizz out there but I gave him a knowledge bump about getting it second hand. The extra $$ I spent on my RME was worth it for me because it has been trouble free since Mac OS 9 and they have constantly updated drivers right up to the present. Sometimes affordability can be measured by how much you pay AND how much BS you have to put up with from the manufacturer. Feel free to suggest some more affordable 8 input cards.
 No really, anyone suggest some cards. The field of i/o cards is a tough one because you can't try them out like an MPC2500 and if it requires opening your CPU to install any previous advice is worth hearing before you have to futz with your system.

I think that I covered that the 8 out wasn't ADAT and the later post by Sensei would make it obvious that one didn't exist, but it would be cool if it did.

Oh that Lampdog sure does likes to wild on them newbies. Silly rabbit :D

Slick (first post with smilies, I feel like a 12 year old, kewl!)
