Audio Engineering Schools in NYC

Whatup Folks,
Have been contemplating what direction to go with a career as of lately. Graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce, Finance Major, but i just ain't and Enron kinda dude..haha I recently moved to a new city (Vancouver from Calgary..both in Canada) and ain't really feeling the city.

Was browsing scratch magazine and saw a few ads, for SAE institute and IAR Institute of Audio Research. And have been contemplating taking the plunge and moving to NYC in summer/fall.

Just wanted to do the required research and see if anyone has any experience, opinions or insight about these school or other schools, as well as your opinion on actually progressing and career potential with these schools.

both of those schools a very good and both offer internship at reputable studios upon completion of program. SAE also gives every newly enrolled student an M-box and an i-book for free...

studios look for engineers and sound personnel with a good background and you couldn't go wrong with either school.

if you do plan to move here, (unless you have the paper like that) don't plan on living in manhattan.... it's hella expensive. you could look for a spot in queens or brooklyn that's close to the city.

Good advice Sparq. But you forgot to mention that interns mainly fetch coffee and splice tape all day while listening to some cocky engineers b!tch and moan act like they're audio gods.

and everyone and their mother wants to be an audio engineer. not saying it's bad, but the demand isnt that good for the ton of people looking for the same job.

i went to IAR to check it out back in 99. nice school, dope location. but kinda expensive. 2 of my mans graduated from there. 1 of them is an engineer in a studio in the bronx and the other is makin beats for bloodline records (stan spit, jinx & cashmere etc...). i wish i made that decision 7 years ago........

i went to sae in manhattan and they dont give it to you for free. its included in the tuition

ALboogie875, did you find the program to be very educational? Did you manage to find work after completion of the program?

Five Town College is a veryyyy good school to go to if u wanna get into the music business and be a producer. They make u take 2 semesters of intern ships at def jam, Alantic records, J records, sony and more so you will get alot of connections

It's not really free...you pay for it with the tuition money hehe.

I go to full sail right now...dont go here if you wanna be an engineer, market is bloated like a fat girl during that time of the month.

Myself I am dying to get into post for video games or possibly film...

This must be (somewhat) new. Five Clowns College never had it like that from what I recall.

i'm applying to the clive davis school of recorded music.

but five clowns, also, because CD is SO hard to get into.

however, i'm slowly growing more confident in my own abilities to impress, but i've been trained to believe self confidence is the first step toward utter failure.

Nothing wrong with self-confidence. Infact, it's essential for success. Over-confidence is a different story.

unfortunately i'm physically unable to distinguish between them, so i opt for the "safe side."

needless to say, it's something that's haunted me for the last 20 years.

yeah, it's been around in FCC but in the last year or so they've really upped the advertisement of that course. i think they even have new facilities. but they always had music business courses.
