heres the whole interview

Break down the production process for “Still Alive”?

I was in Vegas when I did that beat. I did that in the hotel. When I’m on the road I take the Akai MPC 1000 and the MBOX. I take a bunch modules like the Roland Fantom X. I’m on the road rocking.

How do you like the MPC 1000?

It’s not like the MPC 2000 or 3000 but I get shit done with it.

How did you put the track together for “Still Alive?

I’ve done that beat on the Fantom. All the sounds came from the Fantom. No samples at all accept for some of the drums, which are custom made.

When composing the track what were you feeling?

It was one of those times when your just making joints.

What was the process for getting AZ the tracks and session files?

Ray Don from Nexus played the tracks for AZ and they two-way me. My track was the last song before they wrapped the album up. I brought the sessions files to Power House on DVD.

How do you feel about the record “Still Alive”?

It was hard. I love it. I’ve known AZ for years. I used to have a studio in Jersey. I have songs on AZ that he didn’t remember we did. Every thing is good.
How does Vinny Idol get down when it comes to these beats?

I do that all day. I try to stick to my craft. I stay diggin in the crates. You’ll catch me in Salvation Army. I also play drums and keys.

Where did you get your technical training in regards to production?

I learn from my mistakes. I was one of those ignorant guys at first. I got smart and took in the knowledge. I’ve been around music my whole life. My cousin is Davy DMX from Queens. He did a lot of Run DMC records.

What did you learn from DAVY DMX?

He use to take me with him to sessions. He expose me to equipment like drum machines and samplers.

Explain how you get down in regards to building your catalog for the market?

I try to do at least 10-12 joints a day. I keep everything whether it’s throw aways because you never know what people are going to like. I go straight to Pro Tools because they go so quick. Soon as I finish the sequence I put them down and move on to the next one.

What system do you have for organizing your catalog?

I keep them in iTunes. I back up my session files on DVD.

How do you deal with the competition?

I don’t look at it like competition. The music speaks for itself along with the connections. There’s a lot of hot stuff out but you have to be in the game. If you don’t know anybody you can’t get on.

Hmm, this is the track I hated so much I deleted it off my computer so that I wouldn't accidently hear it while listening to that (otherwise) dope album.
