Question. My searches are providing me with little results thus far. Here is what I have figured out on my own so far. Basically, I am trying to compose using my mpc1000 and reason, then record these into protools. Now, I have my my setup correct to where when i open reason, and set my midi channel, blah blah blah on the mpc, i can trigger reason. Now when I record, I am recording the notes into the mpc and not reason, so when reason is open, the tracks i record play fine. The thing i cannot figure out though is this. I can sync my mpc1000 to protools fine. I can record and everything perfectly. If I have recorded the midi sounds (notes) into the mpc, to where there is no midi listed in reasons sequencer, can I still record the reason instuments onto their own tracks in protools. I have tried opening protools, syncing my mpc with the midi beat clock, then trying to rewire reason to protools. However, when i hit play on protools, only the samples i have loaded into the mpc play, not the reason sounds, even though i have reason rewired to protools, with the song loaded in reason that i used with the mpc to trigger the samples. Do I need to record the midi notes into reasons sequencer, or what am I doing wrong. At this point, I have tried everything I can think of, and believe me its ALOT! I just can't get it all to function together, and this is the last piece of the puzzle for me.

Thanks to anybody that can help me with this.

peace

in reason go to the advance midi page in preferences, check off the box to allow midi clock then on the main screen of reason, down to the left of the click button. click on the button that says, allow midi (i'm not in front of reason right now, i think that's what it says on the main screen), then you have to open pro tools first then reason. and when you rewire, route the rewire channels to an aux track in protools then route that aux track to an audio track.

what's going to happen is you are going to master the mpc with protools and master reason with the mpc so when you press record in PT, the mpc will start to play and since the mpc starts to play, it will make reason play and everything should be fine.

thanks sparq, i will try this when i get home. i think my issue is with assigning the reason channels to aux then the aux to an audio track.
so close, so close. but so far away, hahaha. thanks man, i'll let you know how it turns out.

How about upgrading to PT 7? THen you have the integrated "Instrument" tracks, that include Midi AND the audio from Reason.

You set up an aux channel and a audio track, but did you set up a midi channel to get the information from your mpc to Reason? Because when pro-tools is master, the Midi from the MPC (that used to trigger reason before) is arriving in PRo-tools. You have to tell pro-tools to send it to Reason on the right channels. So basically you need a Midi track in pro-tools, with the right reason-module as it's output, and the MPC as it's input.

This gets a lot simpler in PT7 with the instrument tracks though, no need for an aux track and a seperate Midi track.

is there a version of cubase that does this ... currently am using cubase le ... considering cubase sx 3 ...but just curious if you can accept audio from reason without saving song in reason as song info .. then importing into cubase ... for mixdown purposes

I don't know much about cubase. But I do know that you have to have a song in Reason, even if it's output is rewired into another program. The rewire master (be it pro tools or cubase or ableton live...) doesn't remember the song settings from reason, you have to save that as a seperate song file.

But other than that, it is a very convenient way of combining the strengths of both programs. You can mix the streams coming from Reason in Cubase as if it were a cubase track. All you have to do is set up the rewire channels between the two programs.
