editing software

what are the different programs out there and which one is considered the best?are they all the same?i have cool edit but i think i should be stepping my game up!Is this pro tools i keep hearing about an editing software or what?

No disrespect to you cuz but when so many people use the words "Steppin up", to me it gets use in the wrong light. To answer your question to me pro tools can be used as a wave editor if you understand how to work with it but its audio recording program. i use Nuendo 2.1 as my multi tracker and wave editor program because i have shyt load of pluggins to get the job done thats needed. After me youll hear a 1000 people say this or that about pro tools being good or not...me myself i find pro tools kind of behind compare to Nuendo 2.1 BUT TOO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO MISREAD THIS IM TALKING ABOUT PRO TOOLS LE NOT THE HD SYSTEM. I think your already on the right track now if your using Cool Edit. Ill say this all edit/recording programs are pretty much the same with a few features hear and there left out from program to program. I think as far as the home studio market go there is no program with a better sound engine out right now then Nuenod 2.1 but then again THATS WHAT I THINK. Look at it like this your only goal is to make your music as good as it can be in order to present it to a artist or management company. I know cats that have played beats recorded from the mpc to a maxell tape and got paid. As far as stepping up i think that word should be used when talking about working harder at doing more.

from what i see it seems that Nuendo 2.1 is all its cracked up to be but that price tag is no where near my league.

For editing I would suggest you check out Sound Forge, Wavelab or Adobe Audition. If you are looking for a DAW I would suggest Cubase SX 2.0, Pro Tools LE, Sonar, or Cakewalk. I use Cubase SX and it gets the job done. If you have a friend or relative that is attending an educational institution have them order the software. Students recieve discounts on some software. I am using Soundforge, Wavelab, Adobe Audition, and Acid 4.0 for multitracking. Adobe Audition is the same as Cool Edit Pro just a tad bit fancier. My favorite out of the three wav editing programs is Sound Forge. It seems to be the most user friendly, but since you are used to Cool Edit, Adobe Audition may be your best alternative.

oh no im not suggesting using nuendo 2.1...i know the price is steep. I got it as a gift for helping out on a project at this one studio.....but cool edit is good good wave editor.

do you guys think cubase is worth the $350?

yes. i use cubase SX and its a monster. its worth it for sure. if you have cubase SX or SL. then basically you got just about what you need for now. you cant go wrong with it. It may be a lil technical but once you know it then you are good to go

you can use cool edit and have no worries.

I really like nuendo.

I was cubase 5 based and it is a world of difference. I understand that SX has many of the same improvements. Definately worth it.
