sound blaster

i just ordered a dell and i customized it and got the sound blaster sound card which was 20 dollars extra so im guessing for 20 bucks its probably nuttin special.What sound card do you guys use and which is the best dmx,delta,audiophile...

i have the 8 outs on my mpc so if i would like to use them to tranfer the beats from the mpc to cool edit...would i need a specific soundcard with 8 inputs or how does that work?

Yeah, you would need a soundcard with 8 inputs to record from all 8 outs on the MPC. As far as what's best, the question is really what's best for what you want to do and how much you're trying to spend. You're using CEP so you have a lot of options for hardware. Check out the CEP web site and see what's supported and what's not, also make sure whatever hardware you use is compatible with your PC's hardware. As far as suggestions, I really like the MOTU 828mkII, I've used it a couple of times with Sonar and it worked great. The Delta 1010 seems to be a popular choice too.

with the 8 outs... i can connect the outs to a mixer and then the mixer to the card,that is an option too right?

well the delta 1010 is under 300 bucks so thats looking realli pleasing for me right now.

I use the M-Audio Quattro. It has four 1/4" inputs.

You could run everything through a mixer but if you don't have a soundcard with 8 inputs you'll only be able to record one track at a time, or however many inputs the soundcard has.

o tru ok i understand,either way im going to be needing 8 lines to go into the card either directly from the mpc or from the mixer,either way the card needs 8 outs...cool i get it,

and the delta 1010 with the audio interface(rack mount).there is a 300 dollar difference, the Lt seems to have everything that the regular 1010 has so whats the difference...what the purpose of that rack?


the delta 1010 properly named has 10 inputs/10 outputs but two are for mics so it has 8 inputs but i would need two of them to go to my mixer so i could use my events to monitor my comp so i guess i could only use 6 out of my 8 outs to go to the soundcard from the mpc.

No you don't need it. I'm not too familiar with the Delta 1010 but from what I can see the major difference betwen the two is the connections, ones has 1/4 inch and one has rca, and the break out box.

Here's how I would setup your gear:

MPC 8 outs to Delta 1010 8 ins> monitor outs on the 1010(I'm sure there's a way to setup a pair of outs as monitor outs if they're not already specified) either directly to your monitors or to the tape ins on your mixer> monitor outs on your mixer to the inputs on your monitors.

Now that's the simplified way of hooking things up but if your going to expand your studio with more gear you're going to start getting tired of plugging and and unplugging everthing else as the MPC will be taking up all your inputs. You might want to look into an 8 bus mixer if you're set on being able to record eight tracks at a time.

I'm not sure I understand why you need to record the 8 outs to the computer if you have them running to a mixer. Just simply mix them down on the mixer and record them into the computer as a left and right stereo track already mixed.

You dont, think he just ment if you want more controll over each of the 8 outs...when you record into a program like audition its nice to have controll over each of the tracks for effects or whatever plus you can always raise lower volumes ect...later if you screwed up the mix...

look into the digi001. Your probably can find them on ebay for 600 bucks. 8ins, 8outs, Two of the ins are mics with preamps already in it. Dont spend your money on something that you will eventually want to trade in.

Good point Speek, I did not think of the effects. I only use effects from the computer on my vocals. If I need them on my samples I do it before I put them in the MPC. Point taken though, good lookin.
