ok so..i read the manual front to back, troublshooting about 5 times. ran the diagnostic test, and all that good stuff. here's the deal..no matter what I do when I try to record this thing is telling me "noAudio". according to the manual it means and i quote. "no audio disc loaded or failure to read data". even though I obviously loaded a CD-R into the tray. I tried 2 different brands of CD-R just in case, and it gave me the same error. I'm trying to record analog out from my mixer to analog in off the recorder, and all wires are proper and what not. this piece of shit. anyone use one and know what I need to do? I mean this thing has like 5 buttons LOL, its not rocket science but damn...I'm thinking I may have a defective unit

yo i had big problems with my burner too. i was told you would probably need a certain kind of disk. though you tried 2 types, maybe there's another kind you need. the manual dosnt say what the recommended type is?

that was mad quick..appreciate the response. well, thanks to that i think i figured it out. checking the manual now it says "SPECIAL audio discs must be used. The Text 'digital audio' must be present. you know how a regular CD-R has that little emblem that says Compact Disc Recordable? Well in between Compact Disc and recordable it needs to say "Digital audio". What the actual difference is I have no idea. I have 2 stacks of CD-Rs that are missing "digital audio" on the emblem

man this is dumb. I have hundreds of burned CDs and NONE of them have that digital audio crap on them. From memorex brand to sony to Imation..they all just say Compact Disc Recordable. I guess that's what I get for buying this ancient CD burner. any idea of what specific brand has that on the disc?

^^ thats what I need, thanks man. Check this out..dealing with 'digital audio' discs

"If you are using a consumer audio duplication system, the only discs the unit will accept are audio CDs. These systems look for a code that is stamped on audio discs during their manufacture. This code is not stamped on general-purpose CD-Rs. This code cannot be written or altered with a CD recorder."

Hopefully that solves youre problem too

so basically, you cant duplicate a "burned" cd? only official audio cd's?

see im not even trying to duplicate cd's with the thing. just run audio into the burner from the cables and burn the audio thats coming in...

but thanks for the thread lol cause i never knew about these different cd-r disks. digital audio disks are new to me....

I'm not duplicating CDs either. But basically you can't use any CDs to burn with unless they are those digital audio joints. Apparently no CD burner accepts regular CD-Rs. Whether youre duplicating CDs or trying to record analog audio it doesn't matter. Time to cop a 100 pack..

make sure they are the right kind before buyin that 100 pack. but those links should be what you need....

yea i was reading about the digital audio disks and they are for "consumer" audio recorders. so im guessing it means the kind we have, not the computer burners. computers can use the regular cd-r. but the burners we have need the digital kind. man i swear i learn something new here every day. its wild. you found a 100 pack for how much?

edit: oh well i see one for $30

i just got a 10 pack today. man this is some bullshit, i'm using digital audio discs and still getting errors. except now the error is NO-OPC, which according to the manual says

"if NO OPC appears on display, the disc cannot be used for recording. However, it can still be used as a CD"

WTF!!? I'm about to break this thing. I made sure to get those digital audio joints. does anyone know what the deal is?

Don't think so man, I use regular CD-R's with my tascam burner all the time. I've never used "Audio" or "Music" CD-Rs because I always read that they were actually no different than the regular 'data' CD-Rs that you buy... only packaged and labeled differently by the manufacturers so they can sell them for more. That might not be right though, but it seems to be what alot of people think.

Haha, yeah that seems kind of strange. Maybe it means you can still use it as a CD for burning data (on your pc)?

The errors you're getting must be pretty typical with that recorder 'cause the first result that came up in google after a search for "philips 765 cdr" said...

Most common question >>> When I insert a blank CDR into the left side tray, I get a "No Audio" or "OPC error". What am I doing wrong ? Answer: you are probably using a data CDR made for computers. These do not work in the stereo based CD recorders like the 765. You need a "Music" or "Digital Audio" blank CDR.

FLUENT, have you seen that site? The guy is saying the same thing you are about having to use Audio CD-Rs. One thing that might help you, though; In the FAQ further down on that page, he says he tested Imation 80 minute "digital audio" CD-Rs and they were "excellent"... Maybe try to cop some of those for testing yourself.

great site!! thanks alot for that link. the CD-Rs I was trying to use were 40x. apparently that's too fast for this stone age burner. I'm taking them back to exchange for the 32x right now. considering I bought the burner off Ebay I'm really hoping it isn't the 'laser out of alignment' thing. we'll find out in a minute. thanks again for the knowtheledge
