Question: I have recorded some drums on teh fly, kick snare & hats...all to 1 track...a mate told me I can then move those kick, snr and hats to their own track [so I can bump out a seperated mix to PC for mixdown]...I did a search but couldn't find anything that hit teh nail on the head.
Would I go Step Edit and pick out the event [by PLAY auditioning] then change the track value of that event? I'm at work so I might not have explained that too clearly but thats what I think I would do?
thanx for any help & I hope this hasn't been asked like a million times before..peace

Lets say recordered a snare, kick and highhat. You could copy the whole track three times (one for the kick, one for snare one for highhat) Then, go back to track one and hit erase and erase the notes that correspond to the high hat and snare. Now track 1 just has the kick. On track two you erase the kick and hats, . and so on and so on. . in the end each sound will be on its own track.

ur in for a big pain in the ass if your going to go about things like that

just record each instrument on thier own track to begin with and then use mute groups or multiple sequences.

eh..

it dont sound the same as if you were to record the whole kit to the track. ya know what im sayin?

when you use seperate tracks, the kicks and snares are all stuttering or late or too earley, you can tell,

but if you know how to play an instrument (like me) you know how to play on beat, so i record all to a single track and leave it at that, i rarely seperate em to different tracks if i dont it means im happy with my drums and there is no need to tweak em.

you don't have to do that because dealing with the 1k, each pad can be separated when you actually track out into the computer. some people (i used to be one of them) work that way... on the mpc, kick on track 1, snare on track 2, etc... but now i do all of my drums on 1 mpc track. then when i track out into my software, i just assign the pad with my kick to assignable out 1, snare to out 2, etc... i'll use different mpc tracks if i have samples or other instruments in my sequence.

ay sparq, when you connect your mpc to your computer, do you just use the midi cable with one end being usb and the other end midi? or do you have to buy like an M-box that mkes it MPC>MBOX>COMPUTER?

nah, you don't have to by something like the mbox. you can use the likes of m-audio's uno. you just have to have an audion interface connected to the computer so you can connect your assignable outs to. and to also have a program that allows those inputs, Live, cubase, etc... and sync with midi clock. it's best in my opinion when you do that, have the mpc be the slave.

exactlt what i do cause When I track a beat I assign each sound (output) to its own track on whatever Im recording into and it splits like that. Realy no need to separate tracks. I used to record all on to the same track then move each event to its own track. Then I relized their was realy no need. Only if you are using a midi Keyboard should you seperate the sounds.

solah, you def have your own way of doing things.

wich is cool with me

but the part where you said the kicks studdar can easily be fixed

i dont have that problem.

people complain about the timing on the 1k but I never had one issue that wasnt easily fixed in step edit or with a little TC

thanks guys, Jacpot and Sparq = nail on the head, I guess I left my thinking cap off...yeah I just used your video the other nite Sparq to sync my MPC1000 to Sonar [I have a 001 but atm am using a 2496 card in my PC which only has 2 analog ins and a digital in]...yeah I'll just assign the pad to an appropriate output...for me I'm not interested in tapping kiks in then snares etc etc..I been a drummer for about 15 yrs now and its just has no feel to me sometimes to go separate takes.....sometimes I'll like do hats separate but usually its gotta be kik,snr and hats all together or nothin :D...pz and thanx for the help guys..

i get what your saying, the reason i do it the way i do, is that im just to lazy and i just get bored easy, so i make a drum pattern on one track and im done, no TC or step edit, i just like 1 rough take and thats its for my beat, and i never save anything unless i am halfway done with my project other than that i just make the beat and export it and never save anything, ya know. I do things my way cuz it best suits me ya know, even if its the hard way and its one step less i`ll do it, i like less steps to create something.

if any of my drums are the slightest bit off sounding - im not happy.

TC is my best friend on here -

I have no instrument experience so I have trouble getting EXACT timing by hand

But sometimes I Make tracks with no tc - to get a different feel in my music.

mostly with TC tho

yeah cool, I actually don't like the TC for drums at all...I got around 420 drumloops of me playing various kits over the years [Rodgers,Premier,Ludwig,Tama] but I prefer chopping em up & loading into the MPC than runnin em as loops

last nite I was exporting from Recylce the hits from these loops and discovered my recyle version doesn't export akai prgs.!!! dohh its an old 1.7 version i think...need somethin newer, I had to fire up Blue Box which I don't mind actually, being able to select pad banks is dope..haven't even **** with poly/mono,filters,envelopes etc with Blue Bow yet, been messin with that once the sounds are loaded into the MP and I'm "hands on"... any tips you 2 are using ? blue box? anythin else worth peepin?

u guys got soundclick sites with ya beats? I'd like to peep em

yea, i play music and i been playing drums for like 13 years.

but i get ya a novice perccusionist needs TC and someone who knows how to stay on beat wouldnt need it. but even when i play a drum pattern i know its off but others dont, and i guess that give it that human aspact to it you know.

i'm with you here. i play drums for a living and i can get really close with everything on one track. also, except for MAYBE the downbeat of a kick, i almost always have some sort of swing on the drums and percussion. if you're good, you can sometimes get that hip brazilian thing happnin in the shakers.
