Load problems with the CD-M25???

I tried a search, but couldn't find anything regarding this. Maybe someone here can help.

I recently purchased a 2500 and installed a CD-M25 drive. But I can't seem to load samples from it. I have several sample CD's from various sources (made specifically for the MPC's) with both sounds and programs on it, and when I insert the disc, the MPC reads the disc and I can browse through the folders and files on the disc and look at the names, but if I try to hit [PLAY] or [DO IT] to load any of these sounds or programs, the MPC says "No File!!!". I've tried loading both programs and individual sounds, with no success. However, if I transfer these same sounds and programs onto a compact flash card, the MPC loads them up just fine with no problems.

What's the deal? I feel ripped off because I can't use my CDROM for what I had intended to use it for.

Yes. And I'm referring to both .wav files and .snd/.pgm files. Both types give me the "No File!!!" from the drive.

But like I said, if I use a Compact Flash card instead, everything works fine. I was loading several of the programs and sounds this afternoon with no problem from my CF. I just cannot load them from the drive...yet I can browse through them just fine.

dam, then i don't know.....

try to burn a cd with wav files on them and see if the same thing happens. if so, then i would return the cd-m25 for a new one.

It depends on which type of CD Rom you are using. I have had success as well as failures with certain CD Roms. Wav files usually load as long as they are 16 bit/44.1 khz. The MPC 2500 will not read a CD Rom I have made specifically for the MPC 2000. I have a Battery 2 DVD Rom full of drum samples. Most load perfectly..others will not load at all even though I can browse the folders and see them...possibly due to the sample rate issue I mentioned above.

Akai format CD Roms donot work as well.

Anyone knowing the manufacturer and model of CD-M25?
Or is there a list of compatible drives out there? (except the on with the hard drives)

yeah but he said if he put what's on the CD to a flash card it will load with no problem. so i don't think (anymore) that it's an issue with the file format

Hmmmmm..reminds me of loading samples with the CDM25 and not being able to make copies and edit the copies without them disappering. When I save these samples to the hard drive and load them into the MPC, I can edit the samples anyway I please......

Sparq, you are being too quiet around here (maybe for good reason). Since the MPC 1000/2500 share practically the same OS and you even have the newer MPC 1000 OS...it would be nice if you can share if the 1000 has the same problems.........

Correct. The very same samples and programs load just fine from Compact Flash, but will not load via the CD drive. I have tried several different sound libraries from different sites, and none of them load from the CD drive, yet I can see their file names and browse them. It gives me no error, it just goes back to the save screen almost instantly, quite obvious that nothing happened.

When you are in the load menu and you see the samples...does the preview sample function work(play)?

With the CD Rom I just tested...I can see and preview all files. When I try to load them, the MPC displays wrong file..but it loads them anyway.

Nope, can't play them either. I can only browse.

Try CD Roms with just .wav files....files that are not in MPC format.

I haven't got an MPC yet - going to have a demo next weekend. But this to me sounds like a right pony.
I mean that CD player is not cheap either, its not like its special or anything. It just spins faster than ordinary drives - right?

So what on earth is the point of having a CD player for an MPC which doesn't load all the Akai format CDs? I have a few Akai CDs which I managed to wangle of someone and now I find that I can't really use them?? I may just get the harddrive then.
Lucky enough most people have the option of copying the samples across through their computers.

I take it that older models of Akai samplers rack and MPC's didn't have this problem right?

$200 is cheap to me...but I agree it may be life savings for another

The MPC 2500 does not support Akai Format CD Roms as of OS 1.00b nor does it claim to do so in the manual.

You can use the CD drive to sample from audio CDs as well as load wav files from commercial CD Roms.
