i will acquiesce to your experience, blaz... its of course stupid to pay a lawyer 150 to fill out a form for you, my point was that when large sums of money are involved, having a lawyer look over the paperwork (a lawyer paid for and hired by you) is never a bad idea. and i assume that securing the mechanical and publishing rights to a piece of music you've written is one of those times. however this is an assumption based on inference from other areas of commerce--if your experience has taught you otherwise then i, of course, respect that.
you're right, I dont know much about copywrite and though I never concidered it part of production, maybe Im a chump for thinking it isnt...
