help: getting shocked while holding 1k and pluging in usb

Is proberly your pc that is nog well grounded had same problem. Hold your hand on somewhere on the end of the computer case if you feel light sparkls there is something on your pc causing it...

I fixed it by connecting my pc to grounded poweroutlet

The shock was all tingly on my fingers.

Actually, I was more concerned shorting-out the mpc or my computer.

I had a USB cd writer that would shock me slightly.

It didn't break ever, so i guess it could be nothing to worry about.

Why are you even using the USB port? it takes like 30 years to copy like 3 mb, get a card reader/writer and use that if you can. probably a better option

I do have a card reader, but when I upgraded to tiger a few months ago the computer wouldn't read it. So, last night when I was electrocuted, severely, after healing I decided to give the reader another shot. Now my os is 10.4.4, I guess one of the updates fixed the problem. Long story short. The CF reader works now, praise the lord.

Where is your pc located in your house? People tell me many times their pc shocked them, and over the years i replaced 2 failing power supply boxes in pcs and one was a garage computer and the other one was in a utility room in the basement.

stop touching the metal part of the usb cable when you plug it in. problem solved.

wet your fingertips when you go to unplug the usb cable. Water is a fine electrical shock repellent

get an outlet tester from radioshack or hardware store. it will tell you if your outlet is properly grounded. its only $5. that may not be the source of your problem however. electricity aint nuthin to f with it can kill u. be careful, i never seen sparks from a usb cable that aint normal. the ground is there to save your life

anywyas, to the poster, check yout setup, if anything changed, try to figure out what changed makde this happen,

as stated above, it might be a bad card in your pc.

regardless,m you should have your equpiment hooked up to a surge protector for 2 reasons - it will stop this kind oof stuff, and if a surge ever hits in the rare occasion, all your equipment will be fine.

it could also be somethign shorting out inside the mpc - which could turn into a big problem. but this is rare also.

uhh. i did contribute, and i shared a similar experience with a USB CD Writer.

a surge protector won't do anything other than stopping surges of electricity from your mains messing stuff up, if you short your mpc/computer or anything else you can really damage it.
