File Organizing

Just curious how everyone here names their files and keeps track of them? I have been using floppies since I got my 60, so labeling the disk was enough for me, but now that I'm using the flash drive I can have a whole bunch of files in one partition. Since we can't use folders with the 60s how do you guys do it?

usually some leter code to denote where the sample came from., then 808 terminology.

Like JBRNBD1 then name the program with a more descriptive name to spall out what JBRN means.

I think I have the same method of naming sounds. How do yall name your chops and corresponding loops? I prefer sequentially naming the chops i.e. AGRN1, AGRN2, etc.

I usually have my 60 controlling a program on my computer. I make the names of the files from the sczi for both the 60 and the pc the same name.

Yeah match them shyts up. Although I save my work I'm pretty sure I'll never open an old file again once it's committed to audio, but still, it helps to be organized.

For loops I'll be like RFLKloop1, I tend to name them in my 60 so the 8 character limit isn;t a concern, if it was I'd use lp or lup instead.

The way I organize my beats is fairly simple:

I will save a sequence on a partition located within the zip disk of the mpc-60's scsi zip drive. After naming the Sequence and saving it to, let's say partition H, I will then make sure that when I label the S950's disk it has corresponding information on that label.

So the S950 floppy disk will look like this:

Jan_16_2006 (I simply date the beat rather than name it)
[H] / bpm= 94
-------------------------------------------


That's it! Oh. I also keep a record of every beat I create on the 60 by writing it in a small marble book. That always helps.

This is an Excellent Idea. I'll have start to implement this in my production.

I find naming each sample not very useful since I haven't found any need to reuse samples for other beats. I just let the 60 name the samples sequentially (sample015, sample016, etc) but give the sequence and programs unique names, usually coinciding with the song I sampled from..

That's gotta suck, if you trying to clear a sample and can't remember what the hell record it's from.....hahaha

yah, that's why I name the program after the song the samples within the program are taken from (paraphrased from my post if you didn't get it the first time)
