OK, I think I'm gonna install a card reader in 2KXL...

As far as I know it's the MCD thing. I'll be installing 1.2.

Do you know if (assuming I manage to do it) install the card reader in my MPC2KXL... would I be able to move files between the 2000 and 1000 using Compact Flash cards?

Has anybody done so?

Just noticed the 1.20 is labelled as "OS V1.20 for the MPC2000XL MCD drives only" (and it's smaller than the 1.14 OS). Wierd, I use it with my floppy/ext zip MPC just fine...

Well, I (like Lampdog) didn't upgrade my OS from 1.14, just in case I had problems with 1.2 and the zip wouldn't work. Took all of 15 mins to install the drive and it's working a charm

yep no problems with 1.14, 4 in 1 card reader and 512mb cf card.

Was thinking about picking up a 1GB (or maybe 2) CF card. Are there reported problems with larger ones in general with self installed card readers?

I just installed the same card reader as you and will be picking up a 1gb card this weeked, so Ill let you know the outcome

Safe. Good luck mate. I think it should be fine if you format it as FAT16 on your PC, I read of one guy who had problems with it reading the second half of a 1GB card. If you format it on the MPC, it won't work.

I haven't formatted any of my cards yet (Memory stick, Mini SD) and they all seem to be transferring without problems so far. Having said that, they're all small (256MB/128MB) cards.

Man it's so much better than Zip it's unreal Let me know how you get on...

I've got a CF 512mb and also SD 1gb and both are being read fine from the MPC (although it wont read both at the same time), Im using the 1gb card for samples and the 512mb to save tracks to.

Definitly a lot better than zip and the main thing is that its one less plug in my mains and less clutter on my desk.... Im still gonna keep my scsi zip just incase though

So when you startup and want to work on a track, you load the .ALL/.SEQ files from one card, and then load the .APS/.PGM from the other?

No, one one card I save tracks (i.e tracks with sounds etc in a folder for each track), the other card contains general samples that are unused.

So for example if Im starting a new track from scratch I'd pull up the samples card and grab all the sounds I think I'd need, but when actualy saving the track (with sounds), it would be on the other card

Gotchya. I was gonna say, the other way (I mentioned) would've seemed a bit pointless.
Thats not bad idea. I keep all my unused samples in the root directory of my CF card. Just 'cause its easy and I rarely sample something without using it shortly after. So theres not a heap of loose sounds in there, but it keeps my shit looking a bit unorganised.

Did you format them first on the PC using FAT16 or did they work straight out the box?

worked straight out the box.... i basically just copied a load of stuff i had backed up on my pc onto the cards and was good to go
